When the bike is idling, sometimes the engine cuts out and the trip meter and clock reset themselves. Does anyone have any idea what this problem is and how much it costs to fix? Thanks very much. moonrunrs@yahoo.com |

That's usually caused by a voltage drop - the bike isn't producing enough juice to keep everything running properly. |

bad ground connection somewhere would be my 1st guess |

Check your battery cables. Just make certain everything is tight. |

Sorry - I jumped ahead of myself...Sleez and Cataract are right - a bad ground or battery connection would give the same scenario. I remember running along the interstate on my S2 and watching my tach needle suddenly bounce...seemed to happen on any bumps. At the first stop it checked the battery - neg screw was almost falling out...I'm lucky it stayed running at all. |

Thanks for the fast responses, guys. Yeah, I notice the tach needle jumping when the short happens. I bet that's it. I'll check it immediately. Thanks again. |

It can even happen when the battery cable appears to be tight. Clean the connection too. That should take care of it. |

yup...they're right. I had a similar problem. Cleaned the connections and tightened them and all was well |

I just checked the connections and they're tight. I didn't check to see if they're dirty or not. I'll do that next. |

check both ends of each battery cable as well. it could be a secondary ground somewhere also, going into the ecm??? don't have a schematic here, but any loose or corroded ground could cause similar symptoms. good luck (Message edited by sleez on March 21, 2005) |

Dirty plugs or worn through plug wires will do it too. HappenEd to me last summer when I had both. It DIDN'T make the trip meter or clock reset though. Still I'd check ur plug wires if you cant see an obvious bad wire. |
