I was wondering if anyone else here has renewed their buell insurance with American Modern Home Insurance yet? The last 2 years I paid about $620 a year for full coverage in NY. I'm 30 yrs old with no points on my drivers license and I never been in an accident. Well, last week I got my renewal policy in the mail and my new premium is $2,404 a a year!!!!! What the Hell??!!!! Did they reclass the buells? I called Geico (who I've had for 10 yrs on my truck) and I'm now paying less then I ever did with American Modern Home Insurance. I just thought I would forewarn you guys (and girls) (Message edited by buellny on March 19, 2005) (Message edited by buellny on March 19, 2005) |

Time to shop it around, that is a screw job for sure. I just paid my annual- Country Insurance, with home and cars discount it is up to $424.00 for the year, last year it was only $280.00, I thought that was a big increase! This is for a XB9S in the midwest. |

Love Dairyland. $350 a year, full on an 96 S2. 28 and two speeding tickets (most recent in 2000). |

I got the same screw job from American Modern Home Insurance, but I live in Michigan. However, that happened to me in September. I switched to State Farm immediately and my rate went back to $540 a year. |

O great.... I switched to American Modern after getting the screw job from Progressive two years ago. Dairyland's quote was out on some other planet. I have an excellent driving record with no tickets or anything. Was told it's all "statistics and demographics", meaning there are a lot of dipsticks totaling Buells in my neck of the woods (sigh). All we can do is throw the dice and jump ship every time the insurance companies play this scam on us. |

American Family does not classify Buells as "SuperBikes"(even though they are "Super" bikes) I had a customer that almost didn't buy a Buell because of the 1700.00 quote he got. Ended up with American Family and got insurance for 330.00 |

All I can say is that they are not out to screw ya!!!!!It may seem that way but its not. Rates are driven by loss experience of each particular insurer. Insurance is also the losses of the few are paid by many so despite the fact your own rates have increased its usually based on the claims presented the previous two years experience. Other factors such as investment income, staffing salaries and office expenses also come into play. Insurance companies do have a responsibility to their shareholders as any other company that exists to make a profit. I would say if your not happy with your rates then shop around for a lower premium. Up this way the auto insurance industry is heavily regulated by the government so the differences in premiums is very little. |

Apex, I'm with Allstate and pay $1200 a year on my XB9SX. Though being under 25 does that to me. BTW, where in Fl. do you live? |

"Up this way the auto insurance industry is heavily regulated by the government so the differences in premiums is very little." Regulated by the gov't, my . Up this way the gov't has allowed the insurance industry a license to print money. Record profits and some of the highest rates in North America with no end in sight and no political recourse. In Hamilton we still call that extortion. British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are the only provinces still protecting their populace from the insatiable dark lords of the insurance leviathan, by administering auto insurance through co-operative programs that remain solvent while offering premiums averaging 1/3 of those in Ontario's privatized greed-fest feeding frenzy. Don't get me started. Grrrr. |

I feel your pain, I had Progressive and I admit I had an at fault accident on my GTS 1000. Now I know my rates would go up, but $1100 a year and the hike was on the Buell only. Now the check I received from Progressive was around $3600 so figure three years of a $1100 hike get Progressive $3300 back. Bunch of crap. Well I called Geico and received the lowest rate I have ever had on my Buell. Was paying $1514 for three bikes before the accident, $2600 would have been the price on the renewal from Progressive. The policy for the same three bikes through Geico is $1397. When I purchased my Buell I could not believe at the time Progressive was charging me almost $1200 a year for the Buell. The only reason I stayed with them is I had Progressive for like Ten years and never filed a claim and this is how they treat me by raising my rates $1100. Bye, Bye Progessive never to do business again. Insurance is such a ripe off. After this fiasco and with the insurance climate in California I have not filed a insurance claim on my leaky roof because I am pretty sure that if I filed a petty $2,000 to $3,000 claim I am very sure my rates would either go up or not renewed on my home owners policy. Anyway I could keep venting and go on for pages about my feeling about insurance companies. |

Oh and to make matters worse all my Insurance went up because I moved to a high risk area in Mountains in Southern California from San Diego last November. All my insurance went up, the only thing I can think would drive this reasoning with the insurance companies is either the fire risk up here or the lower population up here. What I mean by the lower population is since this is a ski area and most idiots that come up here to ski can't drive in the snow. So there are a larger than normal amount of accidents up here and with the lower population makes it look like a high risk area which screws over local residents. |

I'm 24 with a mostly clean driving record. I pay A GRAND per year. It's disgusting. I've shopped a lot of places and dairyland was the second closest to my insurer now. |

Dairyland has been part of the Sentry group for quite some time...at least 5 years. I had an at fault accident (stupid) and the claim was about $1100. The following year my rate still went down. Go figure. I pay about $420 a year on my XB12R and her BMW K75S. |

When we changed insurance a year or so ago they classed the stock engined S2 as a "Sport bike", and the M2 as something different (standard?), so the rate they wanted to insure the S2 was many times higher than the M2. Forget that granola. We're currently with Progressive, and if we get one of these suprise-hikes we'll be with someone else or back with StateFarm in short order. |

Here' s an interesting thought...my insurance agent told me (off the record) that the insurance companies rely heavily on your CREDIT SCORE to determine where they class you...poor credit score= "high-risk individual". By this I don't necessarily mean "bad credit", but possibly no credit, credit cards charged past 50% of total credit, number of credit cards, total amount of AVAILABLE UNUSED credit, marital status, living situation (homeowner/renter) total debt ratio, yearly income, and other little tidbits of personal information that have little or nothing to do with your personal driving habits to classify you in a certain "bracket"....which given some of the comments I've seen on this board over the past couple of years, makes sense. What a total crock! Your driving record should speak for itself. However, they "unofficially" consider maxing a credit card "risky behavior;" thus (in their minds), this type of individual is reckless and will drive hard and crash. Talk about PROFILING!!!!! And top it off with the fact that insurance has become MANDATORY in most states and you've got a scam bigger than welfare cooking. Any lawyers out there want to initiate a class-action lawsuit? |

I found that out when I was trying to get renter insurance. I had a BK and they would not insure me because of my credit score. Geico never asked for my social though so they did not base my policy on my credit score. |

I'm currently buying a house...we should be closing this week on it. So, I found out 2 months ago that my credit score is 788, which is pretty good. I hope that the insurance hike that american modern home did on me wasn't based on that score or a lot of people are going to get screwed! |

I just called Sentry. Looks like around 450 with 1000 deductable. That is better than what I had so i am changing. Thanks for the names. Guys...I used to be in insurance. Be sure to buy what you need. There are people that have bikes that are worth 3.000 dollars and pay 1.000 in insurance. Insurance is probabilities so you can calculate the prob. implicit in your policy for you(not exactly but kind of) and if you think your prob are higher or lower (and the effect on your wallet is manageable)...you can decide what type of product you need. I hope it helps. |

OK, so I finally heard from American Modern Home Insurance. They said that the claims against this kind of motorcycle caused it to be reclassed into a "riskier" catagory. Just what I thought. So I told them "bye-bye". |
