Anyone know which Metzler tires I should be looking at as replacements for the stock Dunlops?

Also, has anyone tried replacing the stock bulbs with LED replacements in the brake light housing and/or the turn signals? How did that work out for you and what was your source for the LED's?

Did you need to install a load balancer as well?

I did it on my M2. I had joe at www.heavycycles.com build me one with integrated turn signals. It is AWESOME! I kept my stock turn signals on the bike so I didn't have to wire in a load balancer. Al from American Sportbike will tell you about the quality as he carries Joe's products.

Hey Koz,

Thanks for the link. They have a pretty interesting product list. I'll email and ask him if he can do one for an S3

I replaced my stock Dunlops D205 (I believe) last season with a set of Avons and let me tell you have have been very pleased with the performance. And the price wasn't too bad either. I hope this helps.

You'r looking for metzeler Z6s in 120/70/17 for the front and 170/60/17 at the rear. They will give you better grip than the original Dunlop D205s or the newer D220s without cupping on the edges of the front tires like the Dunlops. Also expect more mileage out of the Z6s than you get with the Dunlops. I tried two sets of Metzeler M1 Sportecks on a Ducati 900ss sp that I own but will use Z6s next time because I can get twice the mileage from them and although the M1s are stickier the difference is not great. I just bought my second set of Z6s from Parts 411 (99-59-4860) for$206.55 including freight. Try um you'll like um.

Glad to see some comments on S3 tires. I went back with D205s on my S3 last year (one tire was cut and the other was dry rotted when I bought the bike) but I definitely want to upgrade at my next tire change (although I have no real complaints with the Dunlops).

Any comments on whether a 180/55-17 is better/worse handling than the stock 170/60-17? I have the 5.5" wide PM rear rim.

I've got the Z6's on my XB and they're looking like they will be a great tire for that application ( too early for me to tell for sure yet). Couldn't handle burning up the Dunlops in 2k miles. But I don't think the Z6 will give me the mileage I want for my S3. On the S3 I'll trade mileage for a little less stick. The distance riders I've been talking to like the Avon AV45ST (front) & AV46ST (rear) for the S3. Can't say for myself as I'm just starting on them but they are supposed to last longer than the Z6's but still stick well. Time will tell.

So Avon AV46T are a good mileage tire? I never race and will never knee scrap a corner so I don't need sticky tires that wear out so quick.

But I do want to be able to stop as quick as possible to avoid old people..
