>>>>Any reports from out Elves downunder?? Yes. Then hangover from the 50th birthday party (I suggested age be considered as causal) took longer to recover from than planned. So departure was delayed by several hours. As a result of the delay the event strategy has been "snailed" (with all due respect) in that packing was cut short, only essentials were loaded in the trailer (including 9 cases of beer) and Paul and two riding mates from 20 years ago set out. The plan was to make it to the Salt by sunset Sunday. More reports as they trickle in.... Court |

Thank ya all... Paul, I was going to do the Alto Turia in Spain to learn how to use a roadbook and IMO, but time and money are getting in the way at the moment. I've done some enduros and desert/sand riding in Australia, but it's been a few years and I'm rusty as hell now. Going to sign up at the local motorcross track when it arrives to get as much time on it as I can. |

Peter; I'm sure you've got it covered, but don't forget to get the physical strength and endurance regimen going as well - from that Dakar read you recommended, you'll need all of it ... and then some. Henrik |

Henrik, I know.... Grizz is my trainer. I wanted to start a month ago, but I was doing a trials course and managed to not clear a concrete ledge. Dropped the bike on my ankle and spent some time on crutches, so just waiting for it to come good and then I can start running. I rang Bob last week. He's another that talked me out of doing it on a BMW. Purely for being able to get support through the race from KTM. For those that haven't seen the site Henrik meant, this is it. http://dakar.odsc.on.ca/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=27&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start= 0 There's five pages of his posts. Another interesting one to look at is this; http://www.dakardiary.com/diary/ |

Grizz is my trainer. You're in competent hands then. I'll be sure to contact him with some interesting suggestions ... The Dakar diary reminded me a bit of my final exercise (graduating?) at MP school (many years ago). It was prior to the "softie, PC" changes, and for a week most everything was done to break us. Dang near accomplished the task too. Based on that experience, it seems like some sort of mental prep - how to mentally deal with the hardship and set-backs could be of use. Sort of a "mental first aid" kit. Henrik (Message edited by henrik on March 14, 2005) |

>>>>Grizz is my trainer. Well done. Before I did the 1995 "Lap of America" I hired a trainer 3 mornings a week. One of my favorite stories of the trip was in Jackson Hole where the local piece said "it looks like this guy could pick up the bike and carry it". Physical strength is of paramount strength. We must start organizing! Court |

Jim Mate,I am very annoyed that I can not attend Lake Gairdner this year, ditto Avalon Airshow in Melbourne, ditto Isle Of Man.In the next two months will see a fulfilment of a plan put in place almost three years ago. When the chickens is hatched then I start counting. |
