Ship it? But it's a motorcycle ... - Court It all started because my girlfriend wanted to ride with me. And she wouldn't quite fit on the back of my Blast. A query to badweb resulted in a recomendation to get an M2 Cyclone. It was called a "Naked bike." I liked that. Naked and girlfriend. How could I go wrong? I found a cyclone. Consulted Badweb again. The price looked good. I bought it. Only thing is it's in Reading, PA and I am in Raleigh, NC. Another thing I learned on Badweb is motorcycles are ment to be ridden, not shipped. I bought my one way plane ticket this morning, packed my heated pants, and called the airport shuttle service. This afternoon I'll be in Reading!  | ||

heated pants...??? have fun, i flew from L.A. to Indianapolis to pick up my S3, rode back 2280 miles between friday at noon and sunday at 10pm, loads of fun. (Message edited by sleez on March 03, 2005) | ||

I have betrayed my Blast and fallen in love with another. I know what low end torque is now, and I like it. The Cyclone is a lot different than a Blast, the only other bike I have ever ridden. It doesn't seem to matter how fast you are going or what gear you are in, you twist the throttle and feel the acceleration. I have never ridden anything with two or four wheels where you could be going 75 mph, give it gas and feel is surge. I like this bike. I guess I feel in love right after I left the dealer and was trying to merge onto 220. There was a truck beside me, so I started to slow down, like I would on the Blast, so I could pull in behind him. Then it hits me "I can speed up and pull in in front of him." I was hooked after that. The ride from Reading to Silver Spring was interesting. I got delayed in the airport, so instead of getting to ride down in the late afternoon, I was riding at night. It was extrodinarily cold. I don't think I have ever been that cold before. It's not the kind of cold you feel when you run out to the mailbox w/o putting on a coat. It's an "all the heat has been sucked out of my body cold." And I thought I was dressed for it. I had on thermals, jeans, heated pants, chaps, 2 tee shirts, a turtleneck, a lined shirt, a summer weight riding jacket, a baklava, and a full face. I still had to stop every 50 miles for coffee and have wild shivvers as I was warming up. But I eventually got to DC. It was 23 outside when I woke up this morning. Thats probably about what it was when I was riding last night. Today I ride back to Raleigh. Thats 300 miles, but it will be in the daylight and it will be above freezing. You haven't betrayed your Blast - though with some tweeks you could have got its bottom end upped, however, maybe your wife would like to learn to ride - the more Buells the merrier - I always say! Yeah I'll bet that was cold - used to hitchhike as a college student in Iowa winters - I feel for ya - the M2's a great bike - there's a Black one at DP's here in SF that Scott has been eyeballing - sweet bike! but they want 8G's for it though they will through in a 4 yr warrentee - DP has always lived in high price fantasy land - lol - bet ya can't wait fort it to warm up for more riding! You are a mind reader Ez. The reason I got the Cyclone is the gf told me she likes to ride on the back of bikes. There was no way we were both going to fit on the Blast. But at some point I did think to ask her if she might want to learn to ride. She liked the idea. Looks like she will be in the MSF class in April. I'm excited. Of course she might end up taking my Blast away from me, I might not like that as much :-) I don't plan to quit riding it. | ||

I just got home. 285 miles today. That is the farthest I have ever ridden. It was cold in Virginia. There was snow on the side of the road and it wasn't melting. But it was a lot warmer than last night, AND I could see since it was daylight. I didn't see any other bikes on the road in VA. I did see two getting hauled by their owners. That probably means that everyone else has more sense than I do, but I'm going to chalk it up to being tougher than everyone else. As soon as I crossed into North Carolina, it got a lot warmer. I stopped at the rest area right inside the boarder on I-85 and was putting all half dozen pieces of cold weather gear back on when I realized it wasn't cold anymore. I saw at least 5 people riding after that. If any of them took a good look at me, I'm sure they thought I was a real wimp, riding around with heated gear etc. when it was in the 50s - LOL I decided that I should check the oil when I filled up in Richmond. So I look at the front of the tank, where the dipstick is on the Blast, and it's not there on the M2. I look around some more, and I still don't see one. My next project is to figure out where Buell hid it. | ||

EZ - I did dig out the owners manual and discovered that the oil is indeed under the seat. I would have looked for it a long time before I found it down there. | ||

Been there on the "all the heat has been sucked out of my body cold." I finished up a roadtrip mid Dec FL to SC this year. As I headed on the final 600mi leg home the temp in the morning was not quite 30° It never got above 40 all day. As night fell the cold got too much so I tucked in behind a semi to warm up. Much better, so I got a little closer and closer. Pretty soon I was half a bike length off his bumper. And that's how I got home. 4 more hours. It was 19 when I finally got home around 9-10pm If you get right in that little dead/turbulant air pocket the bike will actually overheat. I know exactly what you mean about shivvering and coffee. When I got home I ordered up a set of heated grips. They work too. (Message edited by trickvrod on March 06, 2005) | ||

JLnance- yep, brand new. It was shoved in the corner of a dealership for a couple years, the salesman did not even know what model it was. I was calling all the dealerships from the BRAG atlas trying to find a left over one, and one not far from me said they had an X1. Well I wanted an M2 but it had to be from California because of emission laws, so I decided to just go look at the X1, and there she was, brand new M2, matched my helmet, sold. That was the day after christmas, not this last one but the one before it, '03. | ||

If you get right in that little dead/turbulant air pocket the bike will actually overheat. That would have been nice. :-) I don't have the guts to ride that close to a truck though. I had the opposite problem. It was so cold the bike never warmed up. It took me a while to figure that out. It would sputter every couple of minutes. At first I thought something was wrong with the bike, but I eventually decided it was probably the cold. The next day it was warmer an the sputters were gone. | ||

Congrats on making that adventure. I think I'd of bought a trailer and hauled it home myself. I bought my first Buell in NC on the coast and I live in Maryland. Since it was used, riding it home from there was not really an option. Here in MD I've been riding all winter. Riding was much better after installing the Polly Heaters inside the handlebars. Study up on that Buell of yours, and enjoy. |
