I would like a bit more wind protection too without sacrificing appearance.

Zero Gravity has one coming out sometime. I think someone contacted them, and ZG said it was going to be awhile. I am holding off until I see what the ZG looks like. I have their sport touring shield on another bike, and I really like it.

If you are just looking for a taller fly screen, Al at American Sport Bike has come out with an extended fly screen. I think Daves was also going to do something too, but I lost track of that one.

Are y'all talking about having a hard time finding the American Sport Bike extended windscreen? If so, after you go to American Sport Bike, click on the Buell hot link...the XB, then windscreen...

Gus...I am sorry. You are right...that is the stock size on the link I indicated. Try this. Go to "Sponsor News" instead of the XBoard, click on American Sport Bike, and Flyscreen is the very first topic...at least just now as I looked at it. Al Lighton is showing pictures of it, etc. It is $209. It is also carbon fiber though.

I am sure if you ping Al you can probably get one if you want to go that way.

I am still curious about what Zero Gravity is eventually coming out with and if Daves comes up with something. I am just abiding my time...

I didnt buy it for protection, although I think it will provide a little better than the stock flyscreen I bought this for the looks. I will post pics to website as soon as I have it on. Then I will paste more pics once the bike is painted. http://www.tsmithbuellxb9slr.com/

Hey TSmith, Was it me or did you switch out your rear shock spring for a stiffer one, possible from IronMachine. If so, do you have a review? I'm thinking of adding a stiffer rear spring to lower my rear ride height. Thanks.

I don't have it on the website yet, but it will be there soon. Part number is 9042, retail pricing is $209.95. There are some pictures of it here

I just got the first 9 in. The mounting holes are ever so slightly wide, so I had to oval them a small amount. With a washer on it, you can't tell, though the hole is still not centered in the tolerance zone. Not sure if everyone's bike is like mine, but the nut plate back behind the cast unit on my bike has the nuts not centered on the cast holes, which is part of what caused the problem to begin with. But I have an early serial number S model, maybe Buell centered the nut plates on later ones.

I will discount the last 5 of these first run screens substantially to $174.95 for the minor issue with the holes. They won't last at that price. Hit me with an email at sales at americansportbike dot com if interested, give me your phone number and I'll call you and get your ordering info.

Just mounted up the extended screen on my XB9SX I purchased from Al. It looks good, fits well and should provide a little more comfort at speed. One minor issue is that it barely makes contact with the brake master cylinder cap but that's an easy thing to fix with a bit of little filing.

Thanks Al!

Peter,
Thanks for the info about the hitting the master cylinder cap. I knew it didn't fit with the crossroads bars (you can see the MC is not bolted on in the picture above) without some shaping mods, either by narrowing the whole screen, or notching around the MC, but didn't have it fit to a fully assembled stock one, I just made measurements. If you have a digital camera, can you send me a picture? That would be really helpful. I can change the scribe lines in the tool to narrow it up slightly so that future ones don't hit at all.

I purposely left the screen large. I collected a bunch of opinions on shaping on this, and got a lot of varied responses. I figured the best way to deal with it was to leave the screen size large and let people trim to their liking. A dremel, drum sander attachment, and A DUSTMASK!!!! makes quick work of this. But I didn't intend to create any interference fit on the stock condition and thought I had clearance there with the stock bars.

Peter, are your bars in the stock rotation position (i.e, tilt forward or back)? When you go lock to lock, do you have very marginal clearance of the control pods to the colored air filter cover? That bar rotation angle will certainly affect the clearance at the master cylinder.

Thanks for the info! If you could post the pictures of it here on your bike with stock bars, I would be most appreciative.

Al

Al, I'll get a pic up later today. Had to do break out the dremel to shape the screen to clear the master cylinder. I trimmed about .5" from the top right corner of the screen. No big deal, although my neighbors are not pleased to hear my grinding and filing at midnight last night. Just wait till they hear me fire up the bike in a few minutes!

My bars are in the stock position. You might want to supply bigger OD washers with the initial batch of screens you sell since part of the ovalized mounting holes are visible on both sides of the screen. Again, not a big deal and its not that noticeable.

Pleased to see other people seem to be having same problem as me! I'm fed up of getting blown around in wind over 70mph and better screen is vital! I note Zero Gravity's XB9S says 04 or later though. Mine's 03. What's the difference?????

I live on a small island in middle of Irish Sea (between England & Ireland) so I don't want to get one out here and find it won't fit!

Hey Rox-

Have you talked to anyone at Zero Gravity about their windscreens for the XB9S? Are they expecting them soon?

I spoke to Zero Gravity about them the other day. Not ready, not on their priority project list even, but they do have plans to produce one. I gave the sales rep I spoke to the scoop, she said she'd pass it on to the design team and that one of them would likely call me, but that hasn't happened yet.

I told them they'd be crazy to produce a transparent blue one that doesn't match the clear blue used by the City-X.

We'll have them at American Sport Bike as soon as they are available.

Peter (huskysm450R) sent me these two pictures and said I could post them.

Peter's CityX with the taller American Sport Bike CF screen on it. Looking good, Peter!

Here's the notch the put in for MC clearance. I kinda like it.

I'll have it up on the site in the next day or so. If anyone wants one before I get it there, just gimme a call, 760-727-2333.

9042

If you order one of the last first batch, the price is $174.95. After these with the ovalized holes are gone, it'll be $209.95

Paint it. Seriously, that's the only way it's gonna happen any time soon.

Zero-G will be releasing a plastic one in the future, but it will be blow molded from sheet the way all their other screens are, and I can guarantee you that they won't have them in the opaque Buell colors. Their transparent blue might be a close match for the city-x blue bodywork, but I'm sure the other colors won't be available.

A customer that already has the Crossroads flat bars wanted one of the tall windscreens and also wanted maximum protection. So I told him I would do the notching in order to make it fit on his bike since I have the crossroads Flat bars on the shop XB9S too. Here are a couple pictures:

Front:
front

Notch:
notch

I could have made the screen the stock width and not had any of these worries, but I figure that people wanting a taller screen are looking for maximum wind protection. Whether a notch is needed, and how much notch is needed, is a function of bar and brake lever rotation angles, and everyone has different preferences there. So I'm going to continue to make them large and recommend that users do their own final trimming, because it is easy to do. I'll trim them for folks if they want me to, but without their bike, notching precisely is difficult. Making it stock width is certainly easy to do if someone wants it that way.

I have 4 left of the $174.95 screens with slightly ovalized holes if anyone is interested.
