depends on what you are trying to do. remove from the frame? from the engine-tranny? best to get a service manual, but it is really only six bolts plus a grounding strap, but they are torqued on pretty good. |

From the frame. I have everything off.The two big bolts that go into the swing arm just seem like they are turning but not coming out? These are the bolts one on each side that have the allen head. |

Those 2 big 'bolts' you are referring to are what put the preload on the bearings. Once you have the small (but very long) socket head cap screw that actually allows you to adjust the swingarm bearing preload out, these two big 'bolts' should just slide out of the swingarm mount block. Hopefully you were able to remove the small (but very long) socket head cap screw without breaking it. In the event that the SHCS broke, it shouldn't hinder the removal of the big 'bolts' as they should still slide right out. Hope this helps, 1313 |

Sounds like you are having trouble with the bolts that go through the isolators and into the (stuby) pivot shafts. I'm looking in the parts book 2000-2001 on page 62, item #21. They call them "adjusting bolts"... but they fit into the inner race of the roller bearings and are threaded on the outboard side for the isolator bolts. I didn't have any trouble getting mine loose last year... but I suppose they could spin if the threads are corroded. The small diameter and very long adjusting bolt is, as 1313 has stated, for adjusting the bearing clearance / preload. Waldo38: is that what is happening? the bolt head is turning but the pivot shafts are spinning? |
