Just bring it up to 100 REAL rwhp and a 10K redline & six speed tranny The 100 rwhp I can easily understand. But not the other two. Why does it matter what the redline is if the bike is delivering the HP you want. And why would you want six speeds if you can get the HP & torque from five? |

The V-Rod engine is too heavy. Do some searches here and you'll find a good deal of thoughtful discussion. Like that 15 lbs is going to make a difference so long as the motor is pumping out 140 hp. Even a few more claims that it has happened. Not a claim, its a fact. I have personally seen at least 1 test mule & they have more than 1. The motor fits, its not too big, too heavy, etc. Nobody in corporate would ever admit they are working on one at the moment...hell think what might happen to sales of current XB's if people found out Buell was going to release a kick Revo powered bike. |

Leave the current XB based bikes alone, they work very well the way they are (just need a sport touring model) Would love to see Erik design a completely new motorcycle around the V-Rod motor and go head to head with the asian sportbike market! |

How about a few more 'tweaks' to the V-rod frame and some serious suspension improvements...like gas adjustable twin shocks or a single shock in the rear and fully adjustable Showa's or Ohlins' up front...ditch the bling-bling pieces, hang on some tuned Ti exhaust? But that could mean defeating the work that went into the EPA noise/emissions/performance equations... There is a lot of room for improvement in the Street Rod for performance/handling...more room to improve the Street Rod in a major way than than change the excellent well sorted and focused XB series by introducing the V-rod motor? |

I`m not sure I would want the CURRENT REVO motor in a buell. I just got my latest copy of Cycle world, And their dyno has the Street Rod putting out 102.9 HP @ 8300 rpm. Note that I said current revo motor. I would like to see the 1348cc motor with twin throttle bodies I read about last month. you should be able to get at least the same 102.9 HP or better with out the extra weight or complexity of water cooling. And do something about that dammmm TPS reset crap. Don`t force me to the dealer for something I shouldn`t have to be there for. Let me go there for something I want ! ! The dealer network drove me to an R1. I still own an S1. S1Eric |

Personal wish? In keeping with the out of the box nature of things Buell, go with Oval Pistons. Honda did some oval piston stuff. IIRC they came close to doubling a given cylinder's bore area while less than doubling the friction. Dual conrods & all. That'd probably be about the point where a multi valve head would be nice to have. I like OHC - but this motor may take 'em or leave 'em. Air cooling may get tough at that point - depending on whether the pistons are longer logitudinally or transversely. What I'd like about this approach is that Buell could nearly double the displacement of the short stroke motor and wind up with the ultimate in ridiculous yet streetable power. No need to rev. That's how Buell is positioning the powertrain now. BTW, I'm totally freakin' ignorant. I'm sure there would be a myriad of challenges to doing this but this is how I'd consider approaching a new Buell motor given what I perceive to be their current marketing direction. -Saro |

To much surface area on those oval pistons. Can you say friction. sure I knew ya could. S1Eric |

Personally, I like not having to worry about adjusting cams, or flushing a radiator. Give me a simple, reliable motor that puts out a usable amount of power for the riding I do. I work around bikes all day, and when the day's over, I just want to get on and ride. For me, the ride is what's important. I don't need to prove I have more horsepower to someone else. Just ride, and enjoy life. |

I want an all new M2. I don't care exactly what kind of a motor it has or what cools it, just so long as it's a V-twin and it works. No oil leaks, no gooie, slimey mung from the breather tube....... I need 100 RWHP, gobs of torque, and a loud muffler. If I have to have a radiator to make that happen then so be it. If not, then that's even better. If they build it we will come. The Edited Part: Let me add to the post I also want Fuel Injection. No more carburetors for me. FI and Electronic ignitions are huge improvements over the old stuff. I'm not sure if I want a Vrod motor in a Buell but I have to ask this, why are all the major manufacturers, including Ducati and even Harley-Davidson, moving or have moved, to liquid-cooled, over-head cam motors? I like an air-cooled, pushrod motor but is it really the best powerplant? Look at a Honda 600RR or a Yamaha R6 compared to a Buell XB12. I know there are lots of pros and cons between an IL4 and a V-twin but I have to think that liquid cooling and over head cams are big factors. I'm not a mechanical engineer so I can't explain it but yes, I would like to see a Vrod derived powerplant in a Buell! |

No, not in my Buell! Maybe in a Buell, just not mine thank you. If they were to offer a Revo powered Buell, I hope it would be in addition to not in place of the air-cooled, pushrod motor. Actually, I wish they would revive the tube frame in some form, but not Revo powered. |

And this brings up the question I want to ask......is it the air cooled motor that people love or is it the rest of the bike? Wouldnt a Buell with a Revo based motor still be a Buell?? Or is the attitude going to be similar to when HD dropped the pan head for the shovel & then the shovel for the EVO or even when they went to the Revo & the so called "die hards" bitched & moaned that it wasnt a HD. Slowly but surely their attitudes are being changed & their eyes are opening up to all the possibilities. Hopefully Buell owners or prospective Buell owners wouldnt share in that same narrow mindset. |

Good point Dyna! I know I'm a tuber at heart, I've always had Harleys in my stable, and didn't let the Buells change my attitude about 'em. When the XB's came out, I thought, "nice bike, too bad I can't fit on one" But I still like them and respect what they are capable of, even if my heart lies in the styling of the tubers. I'm anxious to see what's around the corner for Buell, but know, I'll never sell my S2's or my S1W. Whoretimus |

It's not going to happen! Never, never, never. The freakin' motor doesn't weigh only 15 lbs more. It weighs nearly 40 lbs more, then add water and radiators and hoses. And it only has 10 more RWHP than an XB12. And it is so big that the chassis has to get bigger to fit it in. And since it is so heavy, then more parts have to get heavy to support it and stop it. It is a cruiser motor, for crisakes! It is 75 pounds heavier than water-cooled liter twins! For the same reason as there are no Big Twin Buells, there aren't gonna be Revo Buells. And, Dyna, if you claim to have seen multiple Buells with Revo motors, it's in your dreams because they absolutely don't exist. Believe me, I know!!! |

Imonabuss, It's actually derived from the only super bike motor Harley ever attempted to produce. You guys are almost as narrow minded as the H-D traditionalist Neanderthals! Do you really think that a Buell inspired sport bike with a trick fuel in frame aluminum space frame, mass centralization, mono shock rear, perimeter braking systems and kick looks couldn't be built in the 475 lb range? Take a look back at the VR1000 for your inspiration. Oh, and all the talk about HP is kind of amusing too coming from the Buell crowd. That motor, properly tuned with pipe and intake, without doing anything internal puts 115 hp to the rear wheel (over 130 hp at the crank) all day long. With heads and cams it puts over 130 hp to the rear wheel and will spin up to 10K without tearing itself apart. You guys need to be a little more open minded. A Revo powered Buell is probably the only way you are going to see a sport touring model too. Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh but I do know of what I speak. I've been a loyal Buell owner with an S3 and a blast in the family, and XB for a while (it's too small for me) and a V-Rod. They are all great bikes in their own right and blending the good from all of them will only make Buell stronger. Mark W. |

M-1--"the Buell engine is very aerodynamic"naw,it slows down real nice about 160,add some bodywork and they go real fast. Geof,6 speeds are very nice.I have a Baker and still look for 7th. |

If Erik decided to design a buell with a revo motor, I would be interested. The man can design and build a trick handling and looking bikes. I'm sure if he decided to build it it would be cool. In the current frame , no I wouldn't be or in my x-1 |

I hope it happens... not to be a part of the XB series... so the motor weighs 40 pound more BFD! There needs to be another class of Buell. A SPORT TOURING MODEL!!! The XB frame is too small for 6 foot plus and 260 lbs plus. LOOK AROUND... the average weight of an American male is not 5 eleven... 185 pounds... except for male models. The average male is more like 240 lbs plus!!! I LOVE THE XB!!! but I fit the XB. A bigger heavy engine BFD. A bigger frame... true pillion to actually have a passenger that can have a little comfort. BIG hard bags, room for a top case. The V Rod engine is PERFECT for a sport touring model THINK OUTSIDE THE FRIGGING XB BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!} |

Yes, the V-rod motor makes a great sport tourer. It is called a street rod. There is no reason why you could not make an air/oil cooled type vrod motor. Maybe? |

I'd like a NEW S1 styled tuber with a real fuel tank (high capacity manta style is fine thanks), revo "based" engine, six speed tranny, oil in the swing arm, perimeter brakes, short wheel base with excellent conventional suspension, mass centralization, and ... ... a comfortable seat and heated grips, please. I'll just pull my truck around back? Just a thought -Mike

I would like to see a REVO powered Firebolt myself. OR even a sport touring model with it. The only drawback I can see from the REVO motor is it's fuel consumption. |

hence the big tank... (it's gonna take a big xb frame to sufficient fuel for that sport touring bike) |

While I am preparing to "take off".
- You hold your breath waiting for Buell to use a heavy lug of an engine, I'll hold mine waiting on the Pratt & Whitney powered Ford Mustang. I stand a better chance of living long than you.....
- The Revo is, FAR LESS, derived from the VR1000 motor than you may think.
- I'd bet if Erik Buell were going to do a sport-touring bike (count me among the number of faithful actively monitoring developments in this area) he'd do more than just say "lengthen the wheelbase so fat folks can ride it and quick find something HD has inventory that we can power it with"
........please insure all tray tables and seat backs are in the full upright and locked position...... Court |
