After 28,000 miles and about 28,000 wheelies the belt broke on my 99 Cyclone. Any words of wisedom on replacing it? Should I replace the isolators too? It still has the originals. Thanks.. Buelling in West Virginia |

I think the isolators were updated in 2001. I think it'd be a good idea to replace them while the bike is apart. I plan on doing the swingarm maintenance soon on my 00 M2 and I'll be replacing the isolators as well. I haven't had any problems with them though. |

Djk, Took a peek at your profile, I lived in Warner Robins, Ga before I moved to WV. Earl Small's replaced my rear shock when it blew out. Loved riding north GA, Helen, T.W.O. motorcycle campground etc. Not looking forward to replacing my belt, the local dealer, who only kept 1 or 2 Buells in stock because he "had to" is doing away with Buell. Even if I trusted them I probably couldn't afford to have them fix it anyway. I have a service manual, any tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated. Buelling in West Virginia |

Definately replace the isolators when you do the job. |

What Bill said regarding the isolators. It would be foolish not to replace them when you have it apart anyway. Also, check your swing arm bearings. The're cheap and easy to swap. Less than $25 for the bearings. Some have put a grease zerk in the bottom of the swing arm for easy lubing of the new bearings. When you replace the belt, DO NOT TWIST IT! This will likely cause early failure. The ATC site has a simplified procedure for replacing the isolators. Much easier than the procedure in the manual. Brad |

yep, replace them if it is apart...might as well. I had over 30,000 plus miles on my belt, but went ahead and changed it anyway. Victory , I believe claims 100,000 miles on their belts? REX |

Hey Jerry (Buellmeister57), I used to live in Perry, Georgia, not too far away from Warner Robins, when I was working for Bluebird Bus in Fort Valley. The Air Force museum on base is a favorite destination of mine. What a coincidence! Check the Knowledge Vault for more information than you probably want to know about changing the isolators. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/15239.html?1094447265 You'll have to wade through the archives, but it's worth the effort. There is more than one strategy for this job, and not everyone agrees on the best method. Everyone does agree it's real time consuming (except for the lucky ones with the old side-plate arrangement). |
