To whom it may concern: (In this case, the 'whom' is well-defined below as someone who bought a Buell and has not purchased or ordered the service manual...) The VERY first thing I purchased (same day I picked up my bike) from the Dealer was the service manual. There's a reason for that. I trust my life to the thing between my legs (yes, it's ironic either way you read this,) and as such, I owe it to myself to find the best way to tune, maintain and operate said "device" (even more ironic, I know...) If you own a Buell, that implies that either you or your Sugardaddy/Sugarmomma exists at an economic strata that can support the purchase of a machine which costs in excess of $8000+ new. That being the case, your honor, I respectfully submit that you (or whomsoever purchased the motorcycle in question) should buy the FRIGGIN' service manual. It's what, like $60 or so!? You can afford the carbon fiber timing cover, D&D, Techlusion, Corbin seat, LED taillights, Traction grips, frame sliders, airbox cover, FAST intake and Zero-G windshield but can't seem to make the commitment to yourself or your bike to buy the manual?! Look, March is officially the "We ain't answering anymore of your 'How do I because I haven't bought the damned service manual' questions" month so you really ought to do the following: 1) Call DaveS 2) Order Service Manual 3) Read it when needed. I need to take off my rear wheel because I bought some new tires for my xb. Do I turn the rear axle clock ways or counter clock ways. Should I yank on the belt to get it off or use a screw driver? Anyone? =) | ||

In your case I would advise that you go to the service dept. At the very least they will look like they know what they are doing | ||

So then whats the purpose of this website if we cant ask questions? I thought this was a motorycle related site. I hope If i ever have a question someone doesnt tell me to RTFM.  One of the reasons I like this site so much is the knowledge vault. If not I would go read another board.... | ||

I do all my maintinence with a 5lb sledge hammer and advice from all my ricer buddies!!!  Buying a bike with the intent on doing your own work means BUY THE MANUAL. | ||

I agree...but owning the manual is the best thing I bought for my buell so far. I helps me understand what the bike is all about. Plus from a safety stand point It can help prevent you from doing something with you bike you shouldn't | ||

Got: This thread was obviously not about asking all questions...just asking stupid ones that you could find the answer to by reading the service manual. I am in total agreement with this thread. Asking stupid questions wastes everyone's valuable time and server resources(I'm sure they add up). I've seen people selling pdf's and cd's of the manual's on ebay for really cheap. You might even be able to find a service manual pdf link on the board somewhere. I can't imagine anyone being so strapped for cash that they can't afford a real service manual though. | ||

It makes me laugh when I see some of the regulars here get so short with people asking a question. Their replies tend to have a sarcastic opening statement, the answer (a general answer most times), and a RTFM comment. If everyone RTFM 100% of the time, this board would be BORING. One of my favorite things about this board is that you can learn from others mistakes and experiences, no matter how asinine. I recently snapped my rear axle thinking the threads were reversed. I posted an Oh $hit-type thread asking for some advise on how to get out of my predicament while confessing I had just pulled a dumb-a$$ move. I did get some helpful comments, but a good deal of RTFM manual ones as well. I attributed the grumpy natures of those particular replies to the need for some warm riding weather. For the record, my manual was on order and had yet to arrive. Once it did arrive, I went to the section discussing changing the rear tire. There was no comment in that section mentioning right vs left hand threads. Maybe I missed where it says that, maybe it's not there. It doesn't matter now. I'll never forget which way they go. I guess next time I'll keep my question to myself and just wait for TFM so I can RTFM. I wouldn't want to put anyone out for some advice. That's a lesson to all of you out there without a manual. STOP POSTING SILLY QUESTIONS! RTFM. Otherwise, some folks around here may get a little testy. Obviously personal time and web server resources are better spent discussing such engaging topics like whether you pull or push on the bar to initiate a turn. | ||

bought the manual, didn't get it till it was avaleble here ( it was way back june 02 ) dealer didn't want to sell it at first, "there's two year's warranty on the bike you void the warranty if you thinker with it " sorry, if it brake's down and the couse is my thinkering, send me the bill ! so i got it from hime, did read it full, still do from time to time, it's nice reading, now i'm learning by hard how to put the engine case back to geter |
