Belts are better... I'm sorry . Talk to FullPower about his. He used the stock swingarm. If you need to go all out, I think Hal's HD sells kits that include a swingarm for full adjustability. |

I've done two chain drive XB conversions. I have a swingarm similar to the Hal's version. Pretty straightforward deal. If your not mechanically inclined, I would go for the Hal's kit they sell as it has everything you need. I built mine but bought some of the Hal's parts. You use an X1 style rear brake mount bracket which has to be clearanced on the back for rear disc mounting bolt (or the other option is to replace the bolts with countersunk flat head screws). Disc needs to be spaced out. You use an S1 style axle with captive wheel spacers (in wheel). I ended up making standard spacers and bought bearings using the XB OD and the S1 ID. Front sprocket conversion uses a 520 sprocket and the spacer and seals from a chain drive sporty. Idler assembly is pretty straight forward and assembles into stock idler bracket. The Hal's kit is a well engineered and complete bolt on deal where you don't have to worry about fitting anything, the only thing you have to do is take .050" off the idler bearing spacer for the new idler and bolt it all together. Only big difference is an increase in wheelbase and slight change of rigidity due to the missing large diameter clamped axle. At my (lack of)talent level, I didn't notice any handling issues, but i changed a lot of things at one time. Very cool and functional piece. My only complaint is I go through 2-3 aluminum rear sprockets a race season, as the teeth get bent over. Hard anodized parts seem to work a little better, but the hot ticket would be an all steel piece or aluminum/steel hybrid. My street Buell uses a belt. I'd be interested in hearing the details of the stock swingarm chain drive. I often wondered about engineering an adjustable tensioner to enable one to use the stock swinger (patent pending!) |

Talk to Full Power about it. He uses a modified tensioner with a small sprocket on it. I would imagine that the one from hillbilly motors along with the mod to a small sprocket would be the cat's meow... |
