That is cool as hell. I thought Snowmobiles would be fun but a little big. That looks light and fun!

Talk about some serious knee-dragging going on! (plus the back-ground music's not too shabby, either)

Will never work; must be trick photography; no gyroscopic action on the front ski would make it impossible to ride/turn, or so I have been told. : p

Seriously though, it looks to perform well in powder and unpacked snow, not sure the front ski would bite on packed snow, maybe if it had some nice sharp edges. Maybe if the front ski also had a bunch of small spiked/treaded wheels protruding through its centerline, or at least deployable as needed, kinda like some of the aircraft ski rigs but a little more sophisticated.

Cool stuff. Totally changes and in my view vastly improves the experience of snowmobiling.

Countersteering on a single/center-ski snowmobile. It works too, just like on a motorcycle. : )

If the desert is covered in snow, I think it'd work great.

They were at my work last week for a Sno-Cross event. The dealer had them at a "blow out" price of $8995

I tried talking him into letting me do a demo on the track. No such luck (darn)!

What they need is a way to allow the ski to pivot. It would work on ice as well if they are using carbide rails.

There are usually a few barely used Snow Hawks on eBay that sell for considerably less than new. I think the novelty of them wears off fairly fast.....

OMG!!! I need to get one for when the company sends me to New Mexico!!! Those are way too kewl!
Brings back fond memories of my Artic Cat I had when growing up in New Hampshire.
Brrrrrr, wait a minute, that's why I moved to Phoenix, to get away from that white stuff.
Still, looks like lots of fun. That could be just what the guys up north need to cure them of PMS...

Right Dana, but on the conventional two-ski configuration the carbide blade is always closest to the snow surface, it doesn't get leaned over much and so can maintain contact with the packed surface just fine. With a single track vehicle, be it bicycle, motorcycle, water ski, snow board, or even running on two feet, ya gotta first lean in order to turn. Note that none of the video footage is over packed snow. Maybe a series of carbides would do the trick.

Blake,

The local rep was riding one here last weekend on a packed down snow-cross track with great success.

Discussing its turning abilities and how it work is going to start a whole new thread.

Come on up here to the "Great White North" and I'll get ya out on one.

I missed the event and we have had heavy rain since then so most of our snow is gone again. I know the promoter of the event and I will post some info once I get to ride it. Now I am wishing for a bloody big snow storm so I can get to try one.

The retail for about $14,000 Canadian here on the island. My ambition to buy the URAL Sidecar Bike is still on the top priority over that.

Newfie, here's a link to a kit than convert your DR, or your future Ural, to a very Snow Hawk like machine:

Blake I've seen one already doing packed snow on a lake no less.I'd say the carbides are at the outer edges and in the center. The ski also pivots quite a bit.Damn I miss snowmobiles.
