Hey guys... I just got my insurance renewal for the next year, and my insurance (full coverage) just jumped from $364 per year to $1430. Here is what my agent said: "The rates on all Buells went up to everyone else. They had been 90% lower than the other companies. These bikes got wrecked at an incredible rate last year. I would try to pay it off and carry liability only." Is everyone else experiencing the same thing - higher premiums? It looks like insurance is going up on our beloved rides! Wow! Cyko Bob |

It seems to be the same story year after year from agents... I bet it isn't Buells either... Was this past year your first year insuring the bike? Bait and switch with premiums is a well-used tactic by insurance companies. You get a good premium when you shop around, then your rates triple (or more) at the next renewal... |

POpOKOpf (what a web name!) Regarding other bikes, I have three other bikes on the same policy (including a Kawa ZRX1200), and all of them went down a few dollars...pay less than $400 for full coverage on all of them. So, it appears just the Buell for me. Just for stats, I am 59...no tickets, no claims. I get the "Classic" insurance, ha ha...same as "old fart" insurance. If they only knew... Cyko Bob |

We've been around on this. You need to "go shopping". Country Companies has been fairly priced and very good to me with regard to my Firebolt. |

It became my understanding that many of the Insurance companies were totalling bikes out that had frame damage rather then simply replacing the frame. The ease of changing the frame on an XB is very different then the hassles of other brands, so many of the insurance companies followed the norm and totalled the bikes. Now the insurance companies are finding out its about $1750 total to REPLACE the frame and that includes the labor. So now they have to catch back up and recoup the losses from their lack of research. It also depends on where you live, were there more totaled XB's in your area then say mine? Those are all factors that influence the insurance rates. I will say as I did in the past, when Progressive attempted to raise my rate on my XB to higher then my ZX6RR I called the rep and we went through the cost of repair for a few accident scenarios. When he realised that it was going to cost alot less then the ZX he was amazed having made the assumption that "Its a HDI company so it has HDI prices for parts". When it was shown to him that wasn't the case, my rate went back to the original quote and this year it went down. |

Mine went from $300 in 04 to over $700 in 05. Maryland / DC area This is disturbing as most/large percentage of XB riders seem to be professionals (in the business world) in the 30-50 age range. We're not a bunch of hot-rodding kids. |

$1200 a year. 22 yr old rider. That's my full coverage. Lowest I could find and it just so happened to be with Allstate who I've been with for some time now. |

24 with a clean driving record and my Acura on a different policy-$1000 a year full coverage. That's ridiculous, but the least expensive so far. For those of you who think you're paying too much, try this website. Takes 5 minutes. http://www.motorcycleservices.com/home.asp |

"This is disturbing as most/large percentage of XB riders seem to be professionals (in the business world) in the 30-50 age range. We're not a bunch of hot-rodding kids." Well according to the hurt report motorcycle riders between the ages of 30 and 50 are significantly underrepresented in motorcycle crashes. |

Some of the insurance companies, like Progressive look at the actuarial results for each model and price accordingly. Back in the day my YSR50 cost more than my KZ1000 to insure. There may a lot of truth to what the agent said about the rate increase. Other companies charge by engine displacement, regardless of accident statistics. |

West Virginia is a fine place to buy insurance. You'll find much higher rates in other parts of the country. |

SoCal might not be worse than Chicago, call a local agent. Whatever it costs, the riding will be worth it. Email OrgegaKid (Derek). Man, SoCal has some serious motorcycle culture and awesome riding. You are one lucky SOB. |

I just called USAA to see what buying an M2 would do to my insurance. It would go up $110 per sixth month period. Thats better than I was expecting. Thats liability only. |

Did anybody catch the article in Cycle World or Motorcyclist a couple of months ago about insurance? They ran different scenarios; the worst was something like a 20 y/o with a lot of tickets/accidents riding a 'Busa. It was about $12000/year. Bill |

I paid just under $500 dollars a year for my '03 Firebolt, '98 Ducati Monster, and '69 Norton Mercury (no full coverage on the Norton-don't really know what the value is). I hope my rates don't go up when I renew. If so, I will just shop around again. This is in Austin, and I don't know about the totalled XBs in my area. There don't seem to be many Buells around. I don't see them if they are. |

Using the website suggested by kowpow, I was just quoted $564 for the year in Michigan with my XB9S. That's almost exactly what I pay with State Farm now. I feel very fortunate at the moment. |

in heck... u guys are paying heaps.. In Australia were paying about $700 AUD($540 USD) for full cover on a 03 XB9s. This was my last premium, paid it in December. They arranged the insurance through the place where I purchased the bike, as they have preferred insurers and offer great rates. You know HD should offer there own insurance to HD/Buell owners, it's just a little bit extra service that they could offer the loyal customers. What are your thoughts guys.. Should the manufacturer also offer Insurance... |

Harley Davidson does offer insurance but it is high from what I have heard. I have State Farm and I pay $206 per year for full coverage. I am 24, and I have no tickets and I haven't been in any accidents. I have heard that State Farm is a little higher on car insurance but they more then make up for it with the bike insurance. My 04 Dodge is around $700 a year. I also have home owners insurance through them. The more polices the better the discount. |

Pays to shop around I guess... Last year at Bike Week we came across the AIG display. My wife always asks for better rates on the Busa's as they can be a little pricey. They cut our current rate a bunch. Full coverage on both Busa's is ~$700/year........that's $350 EACH! Needless to say we are very happy.
