I did 80 some pulls, lots of A-B-A type stuff to make sure I wasn't getting fooled, and these are the best pulls of the stock, 2" HurricaneFlow, and 3" HurricaneFlow configurations. The 2" and 3" are a virtual tie at this power level. And since the 2" doesn't interfere with the fairing lowers, that's what I'm using on mine. I'll reevaluate when I finish hopping up the S2, it's in a transitory state at the moment. The stock unit fared better than I expected. Could have something to do with the warpage. There's a good sized gap where air can go around the element down at the south end. Prolly 1/4 inch gap for 3-4 inches of circumference. That's helping it's air delivery some but isn't doing much for keeping dirt out of the motor. I did clean and lube the stock element before the testing. The HurricaneFlow filters were new. I've made up a small batch and listed them on the website if anyone's interested. DJ: I wouldn't worry much about the rain. I once got caught in a torrential downpour on my M2, with a race kit filter (similar amount of exposed element), for 20 miles or so, and it never missed a beat. And it's a whole lot better shielded on an S2, because of the tank cover. (Message edited by aaron on February 06, 2005) |

Aaron: I hate you. I clicked the link. Went to the website. Saw what I lusted for. Clicked "check out" How was I to know you'd made it so easy. One click and I got a confirmation. Less than 40 seconds from "leave to return" to Badweb. You make it this easy, I'm looking for a twelve step group. Send it in a box large enough I can send heads back in. You are the best, Court |

>>>i picked up one my self I kinda need it, kinda don't. I bought it more to assauge my curiousity. When Aaron says "it's soup", it's ordinarily a banquet. I bought it more just to examine and see what he's done. Yeah, after that I'll put it on the bike. You ever seen his work? If not, call me in a couple weeks and tell me we didn't STEAL these things. By the way, if you are anywhere near NYC and have any interest in music...Tuesday night is going to be the "cat's meow". Court |

Aaron, These look awesome! Can you sell just the backplate and standoffs? I'm already well fixed with an assortment of filter elements! Please let me know. Thanks, Jay Old age is the most unexpected of all the things that happen to a Buellie. --Leon S2-T(rotsky) |

Court, I did the same thing with another source of parts. Curious about a carb mount, picked it up, turned it over and over, then installed it. A bunch of stuff migrated from western wisconsin to arkansas that week. Has more I want also. To include the Blast chopper. |

Well, the initial production run sold out. We have one for everyone who ordered as of right now, though. I'll order some more material and do another batch, it'll be a week or so before I have'em back in stock. Damn, Court, no pressure there, right buddy? Seriously, thanks for the vote of confidence. I try. Hope it lives up to your expectations. Susan shipped it today. FMJ, actually, you posted awhile back that you wanted one sans filter and with extra standoffs for both filter sizes, so I went ahead and whipped it up for you. Some people watch the Superbowl on Sunday, others make air cleaners. Jay, sure, no problem. The filter element lists for $45-$50 depending on which one. I can do the billet backplate and standoffs for a c-note. Just call the shop. But like I said, it'll be a week before I have more of these ready. T, we got your order and have your name on an air cleaner, but we have to get more of those brackets you ordered, the last one went out on Friday. They're on the way. Thanks guys, hope you like'em. |

The quick way to address the breather lines is to plumb them to a puke can. Look in the Breather section of the Knowledge Vault and you'll see some great (and some really whacky) solutions. You can make the puke can yourself pretty easily. I made mine out of a huge plastic fuel filter that I glued a small K&N filter and drain plug to. Total cost - $5 (I already had the K&N and the hoses). The KV shows examples made out of beer cans, baby bottles, and even a tomato can. You can also buy a puke can for $$$, but where would the fun be in that? |

T, glad you like it, thanks! And thanks Brad and DJ for helping me out, I just don't get a chance to get on here as much anymore. T, there's a million ways to do the breather. Any of them are far better than putting that stuff into your intake tract. It's basically exhaust with some oil mixed in. Not good for your motor and not good for your power (note that the dyno results I posted are sans blowby recycling even with the stock air cleaner, I pulled'em out of there years ago). If you really wanted to put it into the air cleaner, it'd be simple to drill and tap the back plate for a fitting. But man, I wouldn't do it. Lots of people just route the hoses down, tee'em together, and then go to a simple breather filter under the bike. The breather filter absorbs the moisture component. Some people don't use it, and just put up with an occassional drip from the hose. There's a one way check valve in line with each breather, inside the motor, so you don''t have to worry about anything getting sucked in. Also a good reason to route the hoses down rather than up. Nothing's gonna flow back in and you don't want to create traps where moisture can build up in the hoses. I personally run them down, tee them under the carb, then route it over to the starter where a small adel clamp attaches to the stud coming off the starter, then it goes down in front of the pulley where the other hoses are and comes out to a breather filter adjacent to the shock. Catch cans are a nice solution, too. You can make your own, or I betcha Al has some nice billet ones at American Sport Bike. This whole subject has been discussed to death on this board years ago, I'm sure it's in the archives somewhere if you're interested. |

JT Custom Chrome has a couple of banjo style breather fittings in their catalog: 040485 & 040466. There may be better/cheaper alternatives elsewhere, though. Tom K |

No worries, mate! Glad you like it. Love my S2. Can't even imagine parting with it. Got some more aluminum & will try to get'em on the machine this weekend and have parts at the head of the week. The CNC machine is getting close to full utilization, hard to get everything through it. I need to do some fancier fixturing so the thing can run more at night without us there. But HurricaneFlows of all flavors have been selling well and filter element supply is starting to become an issue. One distributor ran dry but we found another with some stock. Hopefully there won't be an interruption. Here's a another shot of my factory air cleaner backing plate: Not doing it's job anymore, that's for sure. I think the heat just gets to them, being so close to the exhaust. Thanks again, guys. |

Just looking at the pictures of Aaron's old backing plate made me go and check mine. I have a moulded plastic backing plate with a groove that locates the filter pretty well (I'm using a thin K&N at the moment). Mine is a late bike built 04/25/96. Anyone else have this or was it a late addition? I'm pretty sure that it is not an aftermarket part. |

Could have been replaced at one time.I know my fiberglass one gave up after multiple carb removals and the replacement I ordered was ABS instead of fiberglass. |

i noticed that too. i have a 96 s2t, (sep. 95) and it has the fiberglass backing plate, dosent look that healthy but still seals,"still gonna replace it thought" i bought the air cleaner off of another 96 s2t in the area and the backing plate was black "abs?" plastic, not really sure the date of his, maybe i can check latter. the black plastic has some cracks running from the intake hole out about 1-2" . |

I had the same experience as FMJ; old fiberglass backplate cracked and broke around the bolt holes and the replacement I ordered was of a different, plastic, material. It works well but I, too, will be gettin' one of Aaron's dream-jobs! :-) HellBuelly J "The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
