Ok,
So I hear my wife and niece laughing loudly in the next room. Seems my (adult age) niece just returned from an Asian market and bought some facial cream. They were reading the packaging.

I had to share it here.

I just wonder...is this how Asian moms keep their daughters virgins?

Or is this the yang, to Viagra's ying?

And if anyone can decipher the "use" information. They deserve a prize of some sort.

Funny. Real funny.

Just think they are related to the folks that have been awarded our jobs with our Governments blessing and are making parts for our Harley's and Buell's.

I'd be very careful with that stuff. That stuff is definitely illegally imported. A lot of those products contain serioulsy high levels of mercury or other toxic substances.

If I had to guess the "horniness" refers to "dry skin"

The Horny Layer (IE: Stratum Corneum) is the outer most layer of the skin according to the Sig O. This product is used primarily to exfoliate the skin and whiten/brighten dark spots on the skin.

She also advised that this product is marginally effective in whitening the skin, but is not FDA approved as a skin lightener. Hydroquinone, a chemical, is the only FDA approved skin lightener on the market today. However, it appears there is a good percentage of folks that have allergic reactions to Hydroquinone.

The product that Timbo's family bought is a natural or herbal alternative. Not anywhere near as effective as the chemical treatment but still a safe, viable alternative. These natural products can be legally labeled as whiteners or brighteners, just not lighteners according to the FDA.

Regardless whether one uses the chemical lighteners or natural whiteners the individual must use a sun screen to help prevent the condition (dark pigmentation or spotting) from returning.

Needless to say, this is all the same FDA mumbo jumbo that they do for virtually any natural or herbal product or procedure. I think everyone already knows that the FDA won't approve anything natural or herbal. It is simply a matter of patents and economics for the pharmaceutical companies.

Now, aren't you glad you asked. LMAO

Outrider - I agree that there is a lot of FDA mumbo jumbo...but a lot of these third world products are really hazardous. Believe it or not sometimes big brother really does look out for us.

Johnny...Agreed but I still find it ironic that they will not do any testing on natural and herbal remedies. Heck, most of the stuff at your local GNC even if it is made in this country is not FDA tested/approved.

Seems to me that a lesser agency could be created to deal with this sort of product. Could even be a private organization similar to Underwriter's Laboratory.

The Sig O was in pre-med to become a dermatologist, but ended up cutting that short way back when to generate income. First she was a Dental hygenist/assistant and then a licensed Aestheologist. Anything to do with the skin is her specialty.

Me, I was just howling when I learned there really is a Horny Layer of skin. Then I got the rest of the lecture. LOL

Thanks for the heads up Johnny,
I'll forward it to my niece, but she knows everything already anyway. Sheesh.

Also good to know Outriders S O thinks it's OK.

Heck, I just thought the box was hilarious.

Don't think so. If Michael had been using this he wouldn't be on trial right now.

Outrider - I agree about the alternative herbal stuff being overlooked. But look at it this way, we can barely get a straight objective answer on what fuel additives/filters/oils do what. Imagine trying to get a straight answer about what herbal remedies really work.

Timbo - the reason I brought that up is because here in NY there was a news segment recently regarding a skin lightener from the Dominican Republic that was loaded with mercury.

Johnny...Too funny!!! Sounds like just another "oil test" thread. Only this time it is what most (Men) consider snake oil. LOL

Interesting that you mention the Dominican Republic, I am looking for a US internet source for a brand of coffee produced there.

Will pass the info along to the Sig O about the skin lighteners they produce. Note, the info I passed along was only regarding the contents of the product Timbo posted. With the compulsion she has for chemistry, this will occupy her time for many a cold winter's night.

Note, this is the gal that almost blew up the Chemistry Lab while in Pre-Med. She always was a little hyper and has become really intense about the chemical composition of products ever since she almost got booted out of class for the mini-explosion.

FYI, my second wife was the one that really got hooked on the Chinese herbal remedies to the tune of over a grand a month. She was the longest surviving member of her support group at City of Hope in Duarte, CA. They were all listed as terminal and she made it over 20 years before it finally got her. The next longest living person in the group only made it 4 years and none of them ventured into the realm of Chinese Herbal Medicines.

Wish I could remember what all she took, but I have a feeling that after a while it was just a placebo and that her positive mental attitude is what did the trick for her. Guess I will never know without some authoritative agency testing and listing the herbal remedies. Catch 22, eh?

Outrider - good diet, good mental outlook can do wonders.

Just simple Black and Green tea has been shown to have very powerful antitumor properties.

Johnny...Just looked up the Dominican Republic & Mercury. Wow, Two articles on Mining (mercury) and virtually all the rest on the situation you mentioned in NYC.

I found it ironic that the products actually listed Mercury in their contents but were still being sold in the Bronx, Queens and Upper Manhattan. Am sure the products are available elsewhere in the US but that is what the investigation turned up so far.

Of interest, the products from Hong Kong and China were reportedly busted for being labeled as Skin Lighteners, which the FDA reserves for it's approved Hydroquinone based products. Considering this violation of the FDA labeling regulations, I can well imagine your concern about the Asian products containing the mercury as well.

Di (the Sig O) was giving me some additional info about the use of mercury as a skin lightener. Apparently, it was used quite extensively in the Middle Ages in Europe for this purpose and also used to shape hats back then as well. As it turns out, the mercury from the hats was absorbed into the skin, causing the usual brain damage and that is when/where the phrase "Mad as a Hatter" comes from.

Never doubted your NYC report, but though of it more as vacationers bringing the stuff back with them not as a product available over the counter there. However, now you have me wondering about my favorite coffee which comes from the Dominican Republic.

Could it be there is mercury used in the manufacturing process of the coffee or perhaps the water used? A lot of my friends vacation there and bring it back for me this time of year as we can't find it in any of the Latino markets in the Milwaukee area. Then, not much gets here from the outside world anyway unless Home Depot or Walmart sells it. LOL
