I know that the 98 S3T seat will fit right onto my 97, but will the later years work? There are a couple on Ebay and I have to get a new seat before next season or my butt is going to stage a revolt.

I put a 2000 seat on my 98. Fits perfect. However it's about 1.5 to 2 inches taller than the stock one. If that's not a problem the extra padding makes the long rides way more enjoyable! AND with the extra padding it doesn't slide you into the tank when you hit the binders.

Taller is good too. I have no clearance issues on my bike at all.

Thanks,

JT

Impulse I have a 97 & 98. I have both styles of the Corbin seat on them. The 97 I don't like at all. To me the 2000 style Corbin is much better. I thought I would put the Buell custom seat on the 97 and did so. I don't like it either. I has more padding but does not seem to fit me well. I took it off and put it back in the box. I'd like to sell it. I used it three times and pulled it. I use the 2000 Corbin on both bikes. The padding on the Buell custom doesn't seem to work for me. I have two other riding buddies that don't seem to have any problems with the way theirs feel. I have a boney butt me thinks.

the '97 - '98 S3 seat was less than optimal - to put it diplomatically. The '99 and later S3 seat was a vast improvement - not perfect, but way and above better. Add some Propad to the '99 style seat, and you'll have a seat that will take you long distances without too much pain ; )

Let me tell you, your friend have been a hair preoccupied the last few months - house, deep frozen SV w/ busted freeze plugs (water cooling Sucks!) and a few other odds'n ends. He's thought much about finding skateboard stuff for you ... well, at least he didn't cash the check ... yet ; )

>>deep frozen SV w/ busted freeze plugs (water cooling Sucks!)<<

No, living in a climate where water freezes sucks!

Ride cross country on a stock S1 seat or even a stock '97/'98 M2 seat then come back and tell me how terrible a '97/'98 S3 seat is.

I never did like the new '99 and later wrap around configuration. It tends to push my legs outward instead of letting them hug the tank.

I rode my '98S1W with the Pro-Seat to Sturgis from St. Louis. There was a lot of 'hanging-off' and 're-positioning' involved during the journey...there are worse things that can happen but no need to discuss them here. Any Buell S3 would have been more comfortable...

I had a "Pro-Series" S3T seat on one of my bikes. I HATED the feel (compared to the Corbin). In the order of comfort, from worst to best:

Stock '98 S3T seat (longest day: ~650 miles)
Pro Series S3T seat (longest day: ~300 miles)
Corbin Gunslinger & Lady (longest day: ~700 miles)

As for the stock S1W seat....I didn't find it too be as bad as I expected. I've done about 500 miles a day. The Crossroads race bars cause me more discomfort than the seat. I can't wait to see how torturous it will be with the rearsets. I better find a good chiropractor : D

I definitely prefer the look of the pre-99 seat seat. Its not a lot different in terms of comfort and it puts you about an inch lower in the saddle which gives me a better feeling of control (mass centralization?). I use it exclusively except for 200+ mile days where the additional legroom of the 99 seat is more comfortable.
