Silver=Lighting heads Black=T-storms Silver with Huge Fins=XB heads, (there is also a extra bolt hole on the rear head on the primary side) And there are also part numbers stamped into the heads on the underside fins. |

What would the stock heads be? |

stock should be black with cut fins,, lightning heads,, most common upgrade would be thunderstorm heads and pistons,, the xb heads have a lot more fin area,, the stock part # are,, front, cyl head 16450-94Y rear, cyl head 16698-90A if you can look into your cylinders through the plug holes the stock pistons are flat tops, lightening heads,, the thunderstorm pistons are domed,, tapered at the sides,, xb heads will have flat top pistons if they are stock xb heads,, my guess would be either lightening heads or thunderstorm heads,, also compare your front motor mounts,, the xb heads have a quarter inch wider bolt pattern than the lightening and thunderstorm ones ,, that is if memory serves me correct. |

My 95 has stock heads, they are black with cut fins. They are standard Sportster Lightning heads. Flat top pistons. |

tony the heads probably were replaced with thunderstorm heads, i think most thunderstorm if not all thunderstorm heads were un cut,, like i said if you can look into the spark plug hole and see the piston youll know what you got on it,, if the pistons are tapered "domed",, thunderstorm. if flat top lightening,, pull both plugs and roll the bike forward in gear a little bit if you cant see the pistons,, |

tony you probably have thunder storm heads. i cant imagine anyone putting newer lightening heads on a bike unless they were the screaming eagle replacements,, but they would say screaming eagle across the bosses. i dont think that any of the thunderstorm heads had cut fins, hopefully some of this has helped. got a set of xb heads slated to go on mine. but now thor the hammer god calls.time to work, let me know what you find. |
