Ok, I have my XB9SX with the race ECM, cut airbox, race muffler, and TFI. I was going down the interstate at around 80mph and 4K RPM. Every so often I would get a stumble from the engine like it didn't fire. Ideas? My TFI is G3, Y6, R4, RPM7. (Message edited by cataract2 on January 23, 2005) |

Cataract, mine does the same thing just not as bad lately. Trying some new plugs and wires tomorrow and see what happens. Already checked connections 4 times now on the Techlusion so I don't know what to tell ya. Seems to fix itself with a slight increase in throttle most times though...Odie |

I'm thinking that the RACE ECM is putting in enough fuell for that RPM range and it's possible the TFI is dumping to much in. Wondering if I turn off the red and rpm settings if that could clear that up. |

Odie, I have a question.. I have a XB9s (2003) model. Spoke to DaveS on Friday, ordered a Jardine RT 1, Techlusion and High Flow K&N.. My Question is, for street use what is best: Techlusion TFI module or Race ECM. It just seems that quite a few folks are having issues with the 4000rpm glitch... As DaveS has to order in the Techlusion, I do have a week to decide, either go RACE ECM or TECHLUSION on a stock emc. What's your thoughts ? Is the performance gain warranted over the little issues folks are having. Cheers. |

Briz, given that just a few people are having problems like myself and Cataract2 (and mine is just a minor annoyance really that I WILL get ironed out!) I would go with the TFI. It truly does make a world of difference especially when used in combination with your pipe and K&N. You will love it as the power delivery is just amazing. It truly pulls very, very strong now. I rode a 12 demo with the factory race kit installed when my motor crapped on me and it was nice but in no way compares to the setup I have now. Just my opinion though. Good luck... Odie |

Thanks Odie, I should have my package by mid Feb. As I live in Brisbane Australia. Die electric silicone solves a lot of problems on connections. Throttle position, temp and oxygen sensor. |

Briz31 as you know from our mails there can be slight problems encountered when the techlusion is fitted to bikes that have modifications to the inlet and exhaust systems from the standard buell set up,dobecks base settings i believe have been found on a more standard level,but that is why it can be adjusted via the pots,no two bikes even with the exact same mods will i think need the exact same tfi settings,mine are well off what dobeck recomended,but another variable on my bike has just been pointed out to me.i run a heat reflective mat with the iat sensor above this heat barrier,now the cooler air this now seeing from before the mat was installed could be affecting the mixture,so might now position it below the mat like it is on the f.a.s.t system..... to those guys also running heat barriers any thoughts? the outer dummy tank used to very warm to the touch after a ride,now with the heat barrier no heat can be felt,so its obviously doing its job,but as well as cooling the inlet air to make it denser,and hopefully increase the ammount of air into the engine,it could also be affecting the mixture via the iat sensor |

I have the same thing. It surges every once in a while cruising at around 4500 rpm and backfire. Also, under roll on acceleration (not WOT) it would surge at around 5000. Dobeck advised to turn the yellow 2 clock positions up and down and see what it does. When I turn it down it is nearly gone, but still not perfect. I might try and turn it down another clock position and see what it does. Right now it's snowing so I can't test a thing... |

Well, Rigga, I think I'm going to try your settings to give me a base point to start at. This way at least I can get a few ideas going on finding a good starting point for setting for people with mods like ours. This tech. all is pretty new so I, like many others, are just getting into figuring it out. |

Fourth pot - I think that for a twelve the fourth pot should be set to ~4:45 and for a nine it should be at ~5:15. |

I've never had the stumble while cruising on my xb12r (TFI, Jardine, Race Filter, cut snorkel, reflective material under airbox base, cut airbox, CA emissions yank, stock ECM, servo emulator circuit). Not to mention that I have one of the very first units with thousands of miles on it. I think you guys are right in looking for common ground. I would say that I was very meticulous in tying the wires of the TFI down and making sure they would never contact the frame when the engine vibrates (did wear a hole in the fuel vent hose to the throttle body though-hence the CA emissions pull). xbolt12 |

Ok, just got back from a whole day of testing with the TFI. I started with Rigga's settings and WOW, everything ran wonderfully!!!! No stumble or loss of power across the board, well, except for when I was in first gear at around 2K-3K there's a very very very small stumble. Almost not noticeable. I believe that would be the green pot so I'll have to play with it. Otherwise this things pulls hard now. I was on the interstate and pegged it up to 75mph +40mph (cough115cough) and that baby just pulled all the way. Tons of top end power. 2K pulls are stronge and 3K pulls are very strong. My settings are Green 6 Yellow 1 Red 5 and RPM 7 (Message edited by cataract2 on January 24, 2005) |

this is strange then....i thought the mods i had needed those settings,but im not sure now if it works well on your set up too.mmmmmmmm i agree the 2-3k hiccup can be ironed out with the green pot,because mine was stuttering badly there before we got that setting right...top end pull? yep i can confirm she pulls very hard now....we could be here for ever though trying out different comb's but those settings on a race ecm on my bike worked the best two graphs here....one for buell race kit verses new set up with tfi,might not agree how its plotted but it clearly shows an improvment,same dyno same guy,other one shows torque and power curves,fairly linier just a slight dip just over 2k,but that seems to be common for some strange reason (Message edited by rigga on January 25, 2005) |

the second graph has a mix up in the colours for some reason... best torque run and best power are different colours,look at the written figures below and it shows best figures are on same run....why it shows it the way it is i dont know,as power and torque are very much linked together i cant see how you can get an increase in one and not the other,so im satisfied that the numbers listed underneath are the correct ones (Message edited by rigga on January 25, 2005) |

Well, the way I look at it is this sucker pulls hard enough at 5K to make my arms feel like their going to come out of the socket. So, I think this does give people with similar mods a place to start at. |
