Was coming up to a light that was green right behind a big car driving by what had to be an 80 year old woman in it. Well, we get to about 100 feet from the intersection and the light turns yellow and I kid you not, she slams on the brakes. I'm watching this thinking wtf? So I put on my brakes only to find that I was not slowing fast enough. I had about 2 seconds to make a decision of if I should rear end her on my bike or swerve. I choose to swerve. Went through the intersection on yellow between her and an SUV. Man was my heart racing. All I can say is thank you MSF for teaching us that swerve technique. Think I'll be going to parking lots more often to practice those. | ||

Fwew. Glad it turned out oke. I had a few similar ones. I learned to keep a slightly larger distance nearing intersections etc. | ||

Me too. Close ones happen. I had an 80 year old man save my life. Because it took him so long to cross an intersection, I was not hit by the kid playing with the radio and missed the red light. The kid slid right out into the intersection where I should have been, but because the old man I was behind seem to take five minutes to cross half the intersection, I was not there. | ||

Had a close one myself today. Actually, way too close for the dove...he's now pillow stuffing! Cruisin' about 80 on the way home and a bunch of doves decided they needed to be somewhere else. I just ducked and heard the thump on my fly screen. I've got great dust print of wings on the flyscreen and my right headlight! (Message edited by Tucsonxb9s on January 17, 2005) | ||

Try dodging a wild turkey. I had one take flight from the side of the road when it heard my bike, I leaned on the tank and all I heard was the woosh of it's wings. | ||

Cataract you must have been riding in Sun City here in Phoenix. I DOUBLE the following distance or ROCKET past any of the cars until I am in the clear out of habit in that area. Its alot easier on my stress level that way  | ||

Something don't seem right, you are following a senior citizen on your bike and she was able to stop but you could not. You got out braked by a car let alone a senior citizen on your bike???? I suspect there are some details to your story that are hard to admit to which you forgot to include. Maybe not paying attention or following too close. Otherwise that is a great story. | ||

Ok, I was a bit distracted because something caught the corner of my eye to my left and I looked to check it and when I looked back she was breaking. Now, I've been down the road up crashing up on the front wheel, no, I was not stunting, and I'm still a bit edgy over that so I choose the next best alternative and swerved. I took a bird in the shoulder on my Harley at about 80mph. Hit with all the force of a snowball. The view from behind me must have been something to see. A big ol' puff of feathers. | ||

I had some huge turkey vultures almost nail me at about 100mph. That was scary. I had to plaster myself against my tank and swerve. Glad you made it through ok. | ||

Met a guy last summer in Minnapolis. He was riding 2 up with his wife and hit a turkey. Was airlifted away to get brain surgery. He is ok now. | ||

I do not know why, but a Crane will sit still for an eighteen wheeler but not a bike. Every time I see a bike pass a Crane, they try to fly away. Not the fastest birds in the world are they Ayden? | ||

And they say Pterodactyls(Cranes) are extinct. They are thriving in our area. I have a decoy that we use when duck hunting, Pterodactyls apparently don't eat ducks but they do attack moving vehicles, thats why we wear camo when duck hunting. | ||

Plenty of Cranes and Turkey Buzzards in eastern NC. I had a close encounter with a Turkey Buzzard while I was riding in a car. His wings seem to span the entire width of the lane. |
