I am sure this is an old question to those of you that have been posting for quite awhile. I made the leap of faith (did not take much pushing) and bought/ordered a Techlusion from DaveS for my XB9S. From what I read on the web, it looks pretty much like a plug and play, except for enriching with the little wheels. We all want to be told it is easy (appears it is easy), so give me some feedback on the installation. Where do you mount the unit? I am guessing next to the ECM. How about running and plugging the wires...anything I need to know? Use plastic ties? Are the instructions that come with the unit pretty easy to follow? Tips and suggestions? I know this is not complicated, but of course I want to do it right. If there are other threads that address this I will be happy to go there. I just know some of you have been here for awhile, know where to go and suggest. Thanks guys... |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/90448.html?1104346290 Simply type in tfi, techlusion and/or dobeck for keywords on the search page and you got plenty to read The location for installation isn't of much help since I own an 'R'. The install really is plug and play. Set the pots to the default suggested by Dobeck (it's in the manual that comes with it) and follow the instructions for tuning. It is pretty easy. In case you do run into an issue you can't resolve, Dobeck's support is simply second to none. |

Thanks Ingemar...I am copying and pasting all I can to a word document. I pulled up your website and copied it to the page also. I will do some more searching and watch for more inputs. |

Thanks guys for all the input...especially the photos...Jersey, your photos give me some good input since mine is an S model also. I am copying and pasting like mad so I can refer to the info when my TFI arrives. It is cold, cold here in Korea, so I will have some time to get this thing going before it warms up. I have the Buell race muffler, but I am thinking about the Jardine can. I am guessing it sounds better, more like a Harley. Since I run with the Harley crowd I want to get that sound. It is not a performance thing...I have not found a Harley over here yet that can outrun my stock XB9, ha ha! Fun, fun! Again, appreciate the input and welcome any other hints and suggestions. This is great...off to work now...Cyko Bob |

I stuck mine in the cavity on top of my inner air box cover where the exhaust motor used to be. At least I'll have easy access to the pots for fine tuning when the weather (and the roads) clear up enough to ride some. One tip -- it might seem obvious, but it wasn't to me at first (and the instructions don't mention it), remove the right side cover (the blac cover below the frame). You can easily access the injector wiring connectors from below. Steve. |

2k4xb12 - I wish I'd have thought of removing that cover..... What a pain in the to do the injector plugs from above! |

Steve...thanks for the tip on removing the black side cover. Things like this sure help... Ortega...if you have pics that you think are beneficial for someone just installing the TFI for the first time, pls post away. You know how it is...darn the directions...what does it look like? I guess it is kind of hard to get pic's of wires on the injectors due to their locations. Okay, is this the routine? Unplug the stock FI wires (put them in a marked box somewhere), plug in the TFI next to the ECM (or same area), then run the Techlusion wires to the proper Fuel Injectors as described in the directions (remove the black cover first). With the recommended settings it should fire up Adjust as needed to enrich or lean out the fuel for your particular setup... Then it is party time |

quote:Unplug the stock FI wires (put them in a marked box somewhere)
Doesn't work that way. The TFI has 2 plugs per injector, one goes on the injector, the other is for the stock plug that came off of the injector. Iow, the TFI plugs "inline" the stock plugs, if that's the proper word to describe the setup.
quote:With the recommended settings it should fire up Adjust as needed to enrich or lean out the fuel for your particular setup...
If you set all the pots on the TFI to "1", or minimum, you will run your bike on its own stock settings. Remember that the tfi will not substract fuel, but only add. Unless you set pots to maximum, your bike should always start and run. |

Ingemar...okay, let's see, it is kind of like a "T" I guess? I will go to the Dobeck website to look at the pictures/instructions...I am sure once I have it in my hot, sweaty hands it will become clear...I am usually pretty good at figuring things out...just ask my psychiatrist Understand about the fuel won't be any less, as the TFI will make up for the leanness using a modified exhaust...air filter, etc. |

Thanks for the support Odie...I ordered the TFI from DaveS...will be at least a couple of weeks before I get it, if not longer. I think I finally have it figured out without it being in my hot, sweaty hands. It is a simple in-line installation. I kept trying to think how it connected to the ECM like a Power Commander, but not true. No connection to the ECM...all in the FI lines. I am still a little undecided which exhaust to put on it...the Buell performance exhaust (I have) or the Jardine slip-on (will need to buy). Since you have been in Korea, you know I already have the performance to outrun about anything else over here, but I want the Harley sound without losing anything from stock configuration. I am thinking the Jardine slip on will give me the Harley sound, along with the K&N A/C (have it) and other minor performance upgrades will keep me happy and in the Harley crowd I run with. As you know, the stock exhaust makes the Buell sound like a toy, but when challenged it runs like a scalded ape! Where did you put the TFI? I am thinking on the battery or in that vicinity... |

Bob, your 9 won't sound like a Harley, but it will sound more like a Harley. The Buell pipe sounded kind of weak to me, but, is far better than stock. The Jardine will be louder, and deeper, but since the stroke our bikes have is shorter, our idle higher, and our 2 into 1 exhaust, we'll not sound much like a Harley. We're different, and it shows. |

Cyko, I put mine on top of the battery also. It really is about the only place you can fit it on an "S". I have pics if you want but I think JerseyGuy had already posted some. It really is an easy install. Between the instruction booklet and Dobeck's website and, of course, the BadWeb, you will have no problems! You can outrun everything over there for sure..............except a Blackhawk!!!! |

Odie said: You can outrun everything over there for sure..............except a Blackhawk!!!! Or maybe an F16. I may have to get one of them if I want the fastest thing in Korea Oh Odie, do you have a pic of a helicopter in the rear view mirror of a car or motorcycle? I love those...you know what I am talking about, don't you? If you have some of those prank/joke shots, I wish you would post them. I would love to copy

My friend with a Ducati running Termignoni exhaust after seeing last years Laguna WSBK event said my xb12 with Jardine sounds alot like the Formula Extreme Buells just not quite as loud (thank God)! xbolt12 |

XBolt... I am leaning toward the Jardine...even though I have the race kit muffler already. I have plenty of time to decide, as it is pretty cold over here right now, but I want to have it on along with the Techlusion when it starts to warm up. Several of us went riding in the 20 and 30 degree weather today though Got to kick butt with the Buell...outran my friend on his 116 inch Glide I have heard the D&D on a Buell...how would you compare the Jardine to the D&D. I know it is all subjective, but thanks for your perspective...Cyko Bob |

had my xb9's on the dyno this morning, spec is standard apart from the factory race kit.... pushed out 80.5 hp on a 5th gear pull but 84.5 through the gears which sugests its running well rich with the race ecm....... so now this week the jardine pipe and modded 12 airbox lid, plus a thermal heat blanket will be fitted and the tfi unit also..... next sat will be another few runs to establish the best set up,standard ecm or race and type of mod to air box....currently ive only drilled lots of holes in it,if its found its still too rich i might completly cut the top off....im hoping the jardine pipe and 12 airbox will lean it off enough to retain the race ecm with the tfi.....if not ill try the stocker.....the dyno guy has fitted several tfi units to bmw twins with good results and he is impressed with them,so hopefully ill get some increase over the 84hp i have now....stay tuned and ill post up the results and charts next week |

will do....but i do have one question to those guys that have fitted/or know more about the tfi unit than myself........ i need to get every mod done this week before i go back for the final runs/set up,therefore i will be adding the tfi to my current set up that is apparently running rich,if i set it to the recomended settings it will be adding fuel that i might not need with the race ecm at certain parts of the rev range, until i do a run i wont know....so can i set all the pots to zero? will this effectivly remove the tfi from the fuel cycle although still fitted?.... then i can adjust the unit once on the dyno to the req level that i need |

Rigga, I would say yes, that would be the case. Not 100% sure but I believe with the pots turned to the full counterclockwise positions there will be no input.....IMO Dyno run with fuel sniffer should verify that I would think... |

Cyko Bob, Where are you in Korea? I've been in Seoul a number of times and one or twice at Inchon and Osan. Don't think I'll be headed back soon, but you never know... |

Craigster I am at Osan. I am in the Education Office/civil service/retired Air Force. Are you Army...civilian or military? When I found out I was going back to Korea I bought the XB9 just so I could have it here. I had a Sportster when I was here before. With all the hills, mountains and twisties I figured it would be the ticket...plus no other XBs in Korea that I know of, so everyone wants to challenge you. It is fun... |

cheers odie.....that was my thinking on the matter, makes sence to me but wasnt too sure, will do that and see how it runs, need to take the bike for a decent spin with both the race and stock ecm's fitted in order to let them learn with the new pipe and airbox....that way come sat and the new runs i can just swop over if needed without any worries if it will run ok |

Ahhh, lovely downtown Osan...land of a thousand strange smells. Gotta get back there to visit the Yong Chon Room for few beers.. I'm civillian. Semiconducter Capital Equipment. Hynix, Dongbu amd Samsung have hoards of our machines over there. When You buy a machine you get a man on site for a year to support it. Then of course they always buy a service contract and ask for someone from the States to be on site. If I'm back anytime soon, I think I'll stay in Seoul so I can scoot over and get burger at the Nashville Club. How's it feel to know you have one of the fastest bikes in the COUNTRY!? |

Craig...if you head back this way let me know, and I will try to link up with you for a few brewskies. As for having one of the fastest bikes in the country, I really need to qualify that as the fastest Harley. I have not been outrun by a Harley...or any other bike, since I have been here. Nearly everyone who modifies his Sportster thinks it's the fastest thing. Then, I have a few friends who modify their big twins to keep up with the Sportsters (even more expensive). I tell them, hey the technology comes with the Buell...much less expensive than all the mods they do. The Buell even comes with an oil cooler...standard equipment. Of course the Harley shop in Seoul does not sell Buells, so you have to bring it with you. It is a conscious decision before you ever come here if you want to ride a Buell. There are a few Japanese bikes in the country, so I don't claim to have the fastest (maybe one of the fastest). Too, as you know, the Koreans drive like stunt drivers. I split the lanes and run the lights when it looks safe (because you can here), but they are crazy. I am getting old, but I want to ride my bikes until I cannot do it...not get sidelined or stopped by an accident. Anyway, my offer stands. Let me know when you head this way and I will try to link up with you and share some Bull/Buell stories. The same offer goes to the rest of the board. Racin' the wind and chasin' the sun...Cyko Bob |
