Hello everyone. First off just so everyone knows, yes I have done a search. If the Techlusion box is designed for the stock ecm on my xb9 then what about the timing benefits from the race ECM ?? Are they just lost? I am considering buying a Techlusion but am still a little confused with the stock vs race ECM question. I am running race kit and modded 12 airbox with upper vents on air box cover.
Thanks in advance!

The stock ECM with the Techlusion ($300) will do FAR BETTER then the race ECM alone ($300). So in terms of $$ out the door, you are much better off buying the techlusion then buying the race ECM.

I don't think anyone is saying the race ECM won't help the Techlusion, I think people are just saying that most of the benefits come from the techlusion, not from the ECM.

So people are not saying don't use the Race ECM with the Techlusion, they are just saying get the techlusion first, and the extra for the race ECM on top of that may not be justified relative to what you get for what you spend.

That being said, I did exactly the opposite. I got the race ECM, and not the Techlusion. I did this because I am still under warranty, and if something did happen, I would feel MUCH more comfortable trying to defend a factory race ECM as not being the cause of whatever failure happens. Especially since the ECM was made by Buell, and I have a dyno plot with fuel air mixture in hand showing I am not lean anywhere.

Were I on the other side of the table for a warranty claim for a dropped valve or some evidence of a lean condition, and I saw *anything* wired into the fuel injection harness, I would be hard pressed to ignore that. I know the techlusion is only able to add fuel, but I also know "stuff happens", and "stuff happens more" when you go grafting gadgets onto your fuel injection and 02 sensor wires. But my performance increase was signifantly less then I would have had with the Techlusion.

Not trying to disparage the TFI device or users, just explaining why I am waiting until my warranty ends before adding one to my bike. YMMV.

Thats why you pull the TFI if you have a failure and then take it to the dealer for warranty service.

I have a race ECM. I think I was one of the first to run it with the new PROM from George.

Like Xbolt said...to avoid any confusion, it simply unplugs. Pretty hard to go lean with a device that can only *add* fuel.

Although, stranger things have happened ; )

What's the PROM and how do I get one?

PROM = Programmable Read Only Memory.

It is a part on the pcb inside the tfi.

Is this a flash dead or a hard chip. Can I do the PROM replacement? What are the benefits from the PROM?

There is always a prom in there. It contains the map or values/variables needed for calculating fuel injection. You shouldn't need to replace it nor have it reprogrammed, unless the tfi does not allow for enough adjustment on your bike, in which case Dobeck reprograms (or replaces) the PROM to inject more fuel.

I don't know what sort of chip is in there. Most likely the one in a socket though, and it is programmable (like the bios on your pc's motherboard if that means anything to you).
