I have a 1999 X1 that I bought new in 2000. It has the Buell race ecm and K and N filter in the stock box with the modified ring and air meter moved. I also have the Buell IDS supertrap with all baffles removed, but I am running the end cap. This bike has great upper end hit but when cruising around 3000 rpm the bike develops a huge flat spot. The check engine light will come on once this happpens. If I thottle it a few times sometime the problem goes away and the lite goes out. But it will away's come back. Do any of you think a Power commander will help? The bike is very hard to ride when the problem happens, it almost feels like it drops a cylinder. I would like to fix the problem's this winter so I will feel like riding it this year.The last time it was out for the day was at Eastgate Harley/Buell's Battle Trax in July of 2003. Thanks in advance Shawn The Bike has 7000 mile on it. Also I have a problem with the bike eatting $50.00 speed senors. 2 of them in the last 500 miles. Any ideas? |

You can fix the speedo sensor with part # Y0199.K for 78.85 Badweb price 70.97 Have the shop check the bike for trouble codes. There is something wrong. Part of your flat spot is because you have all the baffles out. FI bike usually run best with 16-18 discs in place with the end cap. |

Personally, I think the Power Commander might mask problems. Sounds like the O2 sensor - check The X1 Files - Surging - lots of good info. The DDFI is explained at Harley DDFI Reference Material. The engine code can be read by a jumper on two wires of the DataLink connector - the engine lamp will flash the codes. |

On my 99 S3, I also have the race ECM, K&N filter set up, and the SuperTrapp exhaust. Although I run the exhaust with 15 discs, I did have a similar problem this past summer. It turned out to be a broken Fuel Injector. The bike would go fine to a certain rpm, then run like it was on 1 cyl. until I opened up the throttle. This lasted about 3 days, then the injector just crapped out and I had to make it home on 1 cyl.(it felt like a oversized Blast). Just another idea to check. |

Gomo Did your bike act up all the time or just sometimes? If I vary the thottle on mine, say like in the twistys no problems.The problem only really happens on the freeway. |

The speedo sensors can be taken out by spiking from the ignition - possibly you have a bad spark plug cable or coil that is causing both problems? Read the engine code by following X1 Files Engine Codes. |

Whenever I had it at a steady throttle - hiways, straight runs, etc. The problem went undiagnosed by the dealer tech (say that phrase lightly) and it was really an issue for almost 2 weeks (randomly), but really became a major pain the last 3 days |
