I think the only way to make this day interesting would be to toss this POS computer out the window (9th floor)!

I was driving my new 2004 Toyota Corolla over to play darts, like about 4 or 5 miles, and the oil light came on. Yea, yea, yea I should have effing pulled over but I just had the oil changed at Quick Lube 4000 miles earlier and the car only had 13,000 miles on it so I thought it was the light that comes on to tell you it's time to change the oil !?? And why, oh why didn't I take it to the dealer for oil changes, GOD I learn everything the hard way !! So by the time it took for me to get to an exit, I was on the interstate, to pull over the damn thing just died and every light on the dash came on. So I called the dealer and they towed it. I had a bad feeling about it !! Turns out when they put it up, there was no oil in the crankcase, and no oil filter anywhere to be found, and engine seized !! It's right in the warranty book that it's not covered if it's a case of improper maintenance or negligence, and so I'm SOL on that !! Cost with parts, labor, tow etc. about freaking huge $$$$ and with the holidays at least two weeks repair time, which leaves me now paying for a rental car !! My only recourse is to see if I can get Quick Lube to pay for it, I've never done it so I'm so stressed out it's making physically ill !! There is no oil in my garage, it was not leaking and now the dealer says oil is spewed all over the bottom, everywhere. They have documented it and the guy took pics for me, says there is no damage around the oil filter screw whatever and he took pics of all the spewed oil. He believes it was either improperly installed and worked it's way out or it was the wrong air filter and didn't fit good and worked it's way out. Either way, although I honestly believe it's not my fault, it's up to me to try and prove someone else should pay it !! It had to have happened from the time I left my garage, until I got off the interstate about 4 miles and I ask him if that was possible and why the light didn't come on sooner. He said without the oil filter there is a quarter size hole and 4 qts of oil spewing out as I was doing about 65 mph, yea it would happen that quick !! So, nothing anyone can help with but wow I feel better having typed it all while I'm sitting at work all upset over it, but I am better today !! No more crying like yesterday !! Hope you guys all have a Merry Christmas and I better get back to work !! CJ |

CJ, I work for honda and they would cover it based on we just changed the oil. I would also talk to them and tell them you are not paying for this since you did not change the oil, they did. |

Thanks guys, problem is that Toyota didn't change the oil, Quick Lube did and that's my bad !! But, I haven't given up yet, my sis's husband is going to call their lawyer, hopefully Quick Lube will have to be responsible and pay since they changed the oil. And from now on I WILL take my car in for service at the dealer while it's under warranty !!! I've heard horror stories about those quick lube places, but you know I always thought it wouldn't happen to me, so live and effing learn !! I'm already feeling a little better !! CJ |

CJ, Friend of mine once owned a "Quick Lube" kinda joint. Upon inspection of his grease pits he noticed a dozen or so rear axle plugs that the brain dead grease jockeys forgot to put back in. Lotta cars running thru puddles with their axles filling up with water. He also had to pay for a few seized up engines for the same reasons that happened to you. Oil plug not put in tightly, wrong oil filter/not tight enough. Happens all the time at that kinda service center. Value Jet/Air Tran also sends out their jets for service instead of doing it in house, that led to them planting one in the Everglades... I have had the same luck at some car dealers and MOST Harleys shops hence I do all my own work on my rides. No one cares for your shxt more than you do. Good luck with the claim and don't let it bring you down for the holidays. Later Frank |

Well I never made it back out to the store. I cut my finger/nuckle on wed. has been bleeding pretty good. I'm on a blood thinner and I bleed like a stuck Irish pig. So after much nagging by mom and family I went to the E.R last night at 11 pm and walked out at 1:30 am with a $411 bill. They said it was to late for stiches, needed about four or five but missed the 8 hr. window so they did what they could gave me a shot in the belly (ouch) to thicken up my blood so I'll stop bleeding. So now I'm going back out for shopping. WHAT FUN! |
