Ok i just had to post something about this. FORD HIT A HOME RUN! sure there are gonna be quirks with things cause it is a new model make-over... but DANG! A co-worker just got his in, he ordered one about 4-5 months ago, and he just picked it up yesturday. Let me give you the skinny... It is a 2005 Mustang GT, BLACK w/ Red Leather interior, Shaker 1000 Sound system (which is funny cause he is 50 yrs old and listens to RUSH Limbagh) 5 speed manual tranny, SOUNDS TERRIFIC! and the power is UNBELIVEALBE! and out the door he paid less than $27,000 i think it was $26,500 or there abouts.. WELL WORTH THE COST! i will bet there is gonna be a few electrical problems (yes darthane i am sure you'll chime in here) and minor mechanical problems, but it is a VERY good car in the scheme of things. The design is eye catching, the sound is very "Bullet" sounding, the power is RIGHT ON! and unlike the GM power car (GTO) there is no gas Guzzler tax cause it gets 22 MPG!!! that is better than my S-10 and a smidgen better than my cavilier |

I want one too! There is one at the Ford dealer I used to work for. It's black, black int,5 speed GT. I have to pass it on my way to my hunting partners house. I can't stop to look at it. I am afraid it would have to come home with me. |

Daves, you think you got it bad? I pass right by Griffin Ford in Waukesha that has a gorgeous black GT out in front, every day on my way to work. I can't stop by, I'd buy it. And the wife *REALLY* wants one. |

i'd love to be able to trade my '94 GT in for one, but the dealers around here are getting a $3000 premium over sticker right now. I was next to one at a stop light a few nights ago, and damn, that exhaust is tuned right.... |

Sounds cool. "Shaker 1000 Sound system (which is funny cause he is 50 yrs old and listens to RUSH Limbaugh" Yea, man, but that bass line on the bumper music ( "My City was Gone" ) will sound SOOOO awesome!! |

Not to burst anyones bubble but I have a good source that tells me they will have trouble with the timing chain adjuster and the variable cam timing mechanism. Wait a year. http://corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20596 Pay particular attention to "Trumps". (Message edited by m1combat on December 22, 2004) |

The new Cobra will be out in '07 (barring any major setbacks). To me, a Mustang isn't even worth looking at unless it's a Cobra. The GTs just don't have enough OOMPH to make me look twice, even if they are the cheapest 'sport' car around nowadays. Mach is more of a 'redressing' than a real change to the car, so it wouldn't surprise me to see one of those next year. The engine for the GTs was worked over pretty good, this time around, and gets some new goodies. The V6 Manuals (there are more of them than you might think), well...I suggest you stay away from them...but then, we don't have any pansy girl-car owner wannabes here, do we? ;-P |

the Mach1's are alot more than redressing of the car, it has the previous year's cobra engine, with a sold rear axle, different suspension, Cobra brakes, its own exhaust and retro interior along w/ the unforgetable shaker hood, their performance is right there w/ the cobras. Plus, with a lower production number, better chance of them holding their value |

Bingo WhiteTrash . The interior is in just as good of shape as (if not better than) the exterior. Original paint and interior. The paint isn't shiny any more but I like it better that way. I'm in the early stages of rebuilding the original 351C-2V. I'm looking for about 400HP and keeping the outside of the engine completely stock looking, including the carb. The only visual difference should be a set of headers and MAYBE a better ignition, but the original ignition may be good enough. That bit of rust on the rear quarter is the only rust on the car. It had a "bedliner" type underbody coating put on it years ago before it was transported from AZ to MN, then I brought it back to AZ about four years ago. A little known fact about the old Machs... The front suspension is adjustable for toe, camber AND caster , although if you get too crazy with the caster, it will bind near the top of it's suspension travel. The '71-73 Machs DO handle better than the older Mustangs. They are very close to the same weight (they may even weigh less... They are a unibody design), but are a bit longer and considerably wider. I've found a set of used 245/35-17's (Bridgestone Potenzas, I think they're four rear Corvette tires) that have about 3/4 tread left for $25 each mounted and balanced. Those make me seriously consider putting a set of 17X10 late model Cobra rims on it. I'm not sure though, everything else is stock and in good/great condition so I'll most likely just leave it that way. I payed $6800 for it about 7-8 years ago. I think it's worth about 18K now. It's very rare that I can take it to a large parking lot and not have a cash offer or three under the windshield wiper when I come back. I caught someone stuffing other peoples offers in his pocket and leaving his own once . |

Mach 1's are nice and do perform well. They made 9652 Mach 1's in 2003. They made 13476 Cobras in 2003. In 2001 they made fewer than 8000 Cobras. Mine is 1 of 316 Yellow Convertible Cobras. Rare enough in my book for a car I drive everyday (when I am not on the Buell). M1, Nice car. I love the classic mustangs. I just don't have the time anymore. I sold my 68 gt about a year ago. |

And it's even white thats the great thing about the desert, a car can sit out there forever and hardly rust at all. Original paint is becoming really rare, that's a great thing to have. Even though the '69 is my personal fave of all the bodies, i've always had a fondness for the 'big body' stangs, and you're spot on about the handling. My father used to have a couple of Shelbys he restored in the early to mid eighties, and he would always brag about the potency of the 351C. He said with only a cam and carb/intake swap, they would really fly... you got yourself a gem. If you were really thinking about switching out to late model rims, the Mach1 rims come in 17 inch from the factory and 18 inch aftermarket, and would give it a killer retro look..... IMO |

Ooooooooooo...M1, what about the Bullit wheels from the previous generation 'stang like this? I'm really lusting after the new Mustang. I'll wait a year for the bugs and the price gouging to sort themselves out. Every auction on ebay motors is for how much you'll pay over sticker! Reminds me of what they did with the original Miata. |

My father in law just called me and is drewling over this car.... and he is in the market... LOOKS LIKE I GET TO INHIERIT ONE!! rock on... he is gonna wait till late summer early-mid fall to look into one.. but he said he needs a definet replacement for the monte carlo... ROCK ON!!! hopefully the mach 1's are out then cause he had a 1969 Mach 1 when he was younger, and LOVED IT so he would prolly FLIP. |

I think those would look quite nice too Brian. Probably even better than the Cobra wheels. A while back I found a set of wheels that were just like the old Crager's but it looked like someone grabbed a hold of both the center hub and the outside and twisted in opposite directions so the spokes were curved. I really wanted a set but can't find them now... I gotta tell ya though... I think I like the '04 and '05 body styles just about the same amount... |

As I recall, the 351C was the first engine to ever travel down the Mulsanne straight at Le-Mans at over 200MPH. It was in a GT-40 at the time. It was also used in the Detomaso Pantera. The STOCK 2V Cleveland will rev to >8500 RPM's for an extended time (as long as you aren't in a turn...), and nearly indefinitely after a tiny little oiling mod. That's what took out my Cleveland... I spun the rear main bearing just under nine grand. That's almost the ONLY failure mode of the Cleveland. A $40 mod later and it's fixed and near bullet proof. The car has a Windsor in it ATM, but I'm gathering intelligence for my original Cleveland rebuild effort . |

Had a 73 Mach 1 with a 351 cleveland witht he 4 barrel carb & it moved pretty good. Wasnt much of a top speed car, never had it over 115 but it would get up there pretty quick. I thought the stock points ignition sucked, constantly readjusting points, setting dwell, etc. |

LOL... It really is useless to look out of. The side mirrors are original too and the adjustment mechanism always returns to where it wants to be after about five miles. I just learned to turn my head... I sit in the car and look out the side window and the door sill is literally about nose height . My sister is 4'11" and literally can't see the ground while looking out of it, no matter which direction she's looking. Dyna... My Mach came with a "Sorensen Magnition" electronic ignition system. One of those somewhat common in the sixties/seventies "dealer specials". I've had mine up over an indicated 145... That was at about 5500 RPM. I assume you had a manual transmission? I've got the FMX in mine and the rear end is a "One wheel wonder 3.73". It's heavy, but I hear it's also one of the toughest auto trannys made for passenger cars by Ford. I think they put the FMX in the old 460ci Lincoln's. The Mach 1 was "made for the times" too... there are two "cup holders" on the inside of the glove box door. They have ribs near the rear of them like you would see in a gold pan. I've heard that if you break up some Mary Jane and pour it in the cup holders, that the vibration of the car will separate the seeds for you . Not that I've tried it . |

Actually, the FMX kinda sucked. The C6 is the one to get. |

No... The FMX does it's job very well... and for a LONG time. I agree that the C6 is a "technically" superior transmission for a performance application because it's "pretty much strong enough" and lighter, but the FMX is VERY over-engineered for the application of a light car driven by a 351. Therefore... It'll last darn near forever with proper care and feeding . That said though, I wouldn't mind having a C6, but mostly so the car is balanced better. I'd end up going through 5X as many C6's as FMX's. I believe the FMX got a bad name because it was slightly under-engineered for it's most common application... HEAVY trucks and cars with large engines. A lot of people have told me I should get a C6, but I've only ever heard of FMX's going haywire in trucks and boats (Lincolns). Just thought of this... Dyna - Did you ever have any reason to take the drive shaft off of your Mach? I'm only curious because the one on my car only weighs about 15 lbs... I've always wondered if it was stock or not. It seems as though it only weighs about what the two ends should weigh and the "shaft" portion is hollow. It doesn't really sound like metal when I tap on it either... |
