Talked to Classic Coatings today. The orange powdercoat is a special mix. They were very nice and said that it would $150 a wheel to coat. They also went on to say that Buell has subcontracted all of their painting and powdercoating to over seas firms (China). Sounds like it has really damaged their business. Maybe I need to buy a new Triumph ST!! Todd |

Chopper....are you sure it was per wheel? Their website says it's $75 per wheel for most colors. I've had a few pieces done here in Green Bay at a local company called Spence Industries. He's about 3/4 the cost of Classic Coatings. |

They also went on to say that Buell has subcontracted all of their painting and powdercoating to over seas firms (China). That is a double edged sword. If the Wheels aren't made in China, they possibly will be by either Marchesini or Buell as the Chinese government double taxes. That is they tax on raw material or WIP entering the Country and again when the product is shipped from China. Just-in-Time logistics is harder to control as you have to operate on a rolling 6 months forecast and somebody ends up holding the inventory in some stage of production. Translation: one hiccup, like a bad batch or worse, and you are out a month of production and scrambling to fill production and parts orders. Damn, I hate China as well as our Governments failure to enforce our own balance of trade regulations. |
