Buy the SCG... I don't think I've come anywhere near that being an issue on my 12R. I've scraped my feet and I'm sure I've been close to the pegs, but the pegs have never touched. |

I don't think I would buy the SCG without looking around a little more for a suitable XB12S. There is no shortage of 12's that I know about and unless I were small of stature, I would not want to sacrifice handling: after all, isn't that what Buells are all about? You might want to contact a few other dealers or our own Daves at Appleton HD to see if he can get what you want. He has a real interesting purchase program that includes a factory visit. You didn't mention your height and weight: the larger you are, the less suitable the low rider will be. |

The CG handles every bit as well as the S, and has just as much ground clearance. It has 20% less suspension travel is all. Not an issue unless you ride very heaving and bumpy roads, in which case the CG will need to be set stiffer than the S. Also, in order to carry a heavy rider and passenger, you sacrifice comfort more on the CG because the spring has to be set stiffer to keep from bottoming. CG's are GREAT motorcycles. If you are 5'6" 200# and ride solo most of the time on good quality roads, you will love it. |

Hey Thanks to all. I'm think i'm leaning toward the S.Sure the Scg is killer and would enjoy. But come from a place that more is better. Looking at spec's notice that fork is not same 41m versus 43m and ground clearance.Whats the take on that? about an inch. Anyone know where i can deal on Ca.legal bike? |

Read the above post... I am fairly sure that guy will know what he'd talking about. As a side note, I've been considering putting the SCG setup on my R. |

Good Thinking John. Anonymous is supposed to have some inside line to Buell heaven or something: he doesn't. Flat out wrong here. As you have already figured out the S is definitely a better choice for you. Here are 5 reasons why. 1. More ground clearance. Anon got this one wrong if the factory spec.s and common sense are correct. Obviously you can't lower a bike and have the same ground clearance: lower means lower. 2. More suspension travel. Even anon admits this. Life is not composed of totally smooth roads, ( damn it:-). 3. Comfort: why sacrifice comfort and passenger carrying ability for no real reason. 4. Larger forks: I am taking your word on this, couldn't find that mentioned anywhere, but if true, another reason to go S. 5. Resale value. There are a lot more people who want an S than who need an SG. Actually, the really critical matter in buying a new Buell, is finding a HD dealer who really supports Buell. Obviously the one you are talking to isn't too helpful. I have estimated that there are only about 20 of them in the entire USA. Most Harley dealers do not welcome Buelligans very warmly, and the rest despise them:-). I have heard the Glendale Harley is Buell friendly, but I am on the East Coast, so I have never been there. Good luck with your new ride. As you can tell, lots of folks here just love their Buell to death:-). |

That would be an inaccurate statement.
quote:1. More ground clearance. Anon got this one wrong if the factory spec.s and common sense are correct. Obviously you can't lower a bike and have the same ground clearance: lower means lower.
I can think of at least three confounding factors to this. First, some of the height could have been taken out of areas *other* then the suspension, which would not effect ground clearance. Secondly, for the suspension part, the height without a rider seated could be significantly lower, while the height with a rider seated could be more or less unchanged, or changed so little as to be within the "noise margin" of different preload settings / rider weights / tire brands / etc. Also, unless the bike is parked and you are trying to move bricks under it without touching it, the "ground clearance" is a range of numbers, not a fixed number. You can't need to clear something without hitting it first, so even static sag with rider weight is not a meaningfull number. Maybe both suspensions load to the same average distance when under normal dynamic "obstacle clearance" usage scenarios. Also, with the comfort, if you are buying a Buell (or any other sportbike) for comfortable suspension, you bought the wrong bike. The varying degrees of "discomfort" (which I would call road feedback) would be purely subjective. Dropping your bike at a stop sign in front of your local HOG chapter because you can't flat foot the thing is arguably more uncomfortable then a firmer spring going through a shorter length. You might be right about the resale though, probably depends on the potential buyer coming for the test ride. |

"Anonymous is supposed to have some inside line to Buell heaven or something: he doesn't. Flat out wrong here." Every anonymous poster on this board is approved and verified as to their area of expertise. So on that point, it is you who is "flat out wrong here" and I don't appreciate you taking it upon yourself to proclaim anything wrt our anonymous posters. When anonymous says that the low model provides the same ground clearance, he means for a fully compressed suspension, which if you are leaned hard over in a turn is closer to reality than the opposite. Good grief, you seem to imply that a bike goes down the road with its suspension fully extended with zero sag. The truth is that just starting off sitting on the bike the suspension is already compressed up to 1.5" or so; we call that the static sag. On the low model that specified sag is a bit less, so the difference is already beginning to lessen between the two bikes. None of your other reasons make much if any sense to me. |
