Well, install went straight forward. Set up as recommended, idles great, starts easy, SNAPPY throttle responce, great acceleration in all gears, roll-on wheelies are silly easy even at 240 lbs.........BUT........................ While in 4th or 5th gear, at or above a steady state cruise RPM of 3800 or better, the bike SURGES badly. Not enough to lose control, but enough to be audible as well as noticably felt. Mods are as follows: K&N, D&D, snorkle-less, thats about it really. Bike ran well prior to the Techlusion install. Settings are as follows for the techlusion: Green_____Yellow_____Red______RPM 4:30_______7:00______4:00____6:30ish pretty darned close to the factory setting recommendations. I have not had a chance to remove the Box and see if the problem is there without it, but I really doubt it is, as it was not a few days ago when I made the same trip without the Tech. I am VERY sure it is fuel related as well, feels like lean rich lean oscillation almost, feels like you are "watching" a air/fuel ratio gauge swing back and forth. I hope someone can help me out with this, I am sure it is a simple something I am overlooking. I had read somewhere about RPM being instituted at 60% of setting, and that would put it about 4000 rpm, but I am not for sure, and search has yeilding nothing in reguards to surging. Thanks guys Bruce (Message edited by rr_eater on December 04, 2004) |

Did you ride it for a while at about 3200? I'm not sure that allowing the ECM to relearn conditions is necessary, but I imagine it wouldn't hurt. |

Yes, I rode it for over 80 miles, 60 of which was highway, and since the only way to stop the surging was to drive under 3700 rpm steady, the ECM should have reset to the tps/O2. So we are covered there. But thanks for the help brother, anyone else got an Idea?? |

I would have the AFV reset then as a first troubleshooting step. Maybe the D&D flows well enough that the AFV value is too different from what the Techlusion is used to working with. |

Rr: I have to ask that when you remarked above that your settings were: "Settings are as follows for the techlusion: Green_____Yellow_____Red______RPM 4:30_______7:00______4:00____6:30ish pretty darned close to the factory setting recommendations Why did you not just use the factory settings of G=3 Y=7 R=4 O2=7? You're off on the Green and the RPM and my bike ran absolutely perfect with the stock settings...although mine is a 9 -- perhaps the Techlusion manual/instructions for the 12 are different). However, I would suggest that if your manual also shows the stock settings as: G=3 Y=7 R=4 O2=7 ...then you should set the unit there and see if that makes a difference before tweaking. I have a 12 and had a similar problem at first, though not as bad I think. Try setting your yellow to 5:30 - 6 and bump your red up 1/2 to 1 position and give her a whirl. RPM at 7. Hope it works out. |

BTW, with my TFI in and adjusted for my bike the first gear low speed hesitation is GONE completely. Midrange is a bit stronger in every gear, top end the same. You can just tell it's running richer. Love it so far! |

I will do just that Aztec, maybe that little bit will help enough to cure the surging. It is not horrible or unrideable by any means, but is quite noticeable none the less. Thanks guys, will let you know, and if anybody else has any ideas, let me know. Bruce |

Thanks Odie, I am trying to keep the excuse-for-a-local-dealer gorillas from in any way touching the bike, but you know...... Hell, I ride 60 miles further just so a true BUELL dealership can look at problems and concerns!! I am taking it out for a ride this afternoon after work, gonna try Bark's and Aztec's ideas for settings, and see whats up. I love having the techlusion mounted in the old servo hole, just pull it out of the hole, carefully reinstall the cover, set the techlusion between my legs, and go for a spin, and adjust while just pulled over anywhere!! Just the right amount of harness, to use anywhere!! LOL I will keep you all informed. Bruce |

Bruce, try Aztec's first then maybe mine. He came over the other day and said it was stumbling, etc. We tweaked it a little bit and then he went for ride and came back all smiles. We are swapping bikes sometime this week for a comparison to see how things differ.....Later...Odie SMHD is above and beyond ANY HD dealer I've ever been to. They speak Buell fluently so I wasn't worried.....but I know what you mean.... |
