I've had the itch to buy a new bike for a few months now. Never did I intend on getting rid of the XB. I simply wanted to give her some company in the garage. Besides, none of my friends have bikes. So having two would be nice. Over the past few months I visited several dealerships. I was always disappointed in the fact that I never did get the itch to write a check. But I thought perhaps that was due to the fact that I never felt like I knew all of my options well enough to make an informed decision. So I decided to wait until the International Bike Show came through Dallas. Everything would be there! I walked the isles viewing and seat testing each and every option that intrigued me. After about 3 hours of trying to talk myself into liking one bike or another for this reason or that, I decided to head over to the Buell booth. Needless to say, I fell in lust all over again. I say "lust" for I never fell out of love with her. I think I just wanted some strange. As a side note, I have been feeling lately that I'd like to be more stretched out on my S. I've done the crossroads bars, and they have indeed helped. But after sitting on the R's again...what in the hell was I thinking? I should have just converted it months ago. I've now decided that's exactly what I'm going to do. The conversion should curb my desire to seek out some strange for at least another year. And maybe by that time, Erik will have something new up his sleeve for me. I full well realize that there are a great many bikes out there that will beat my XB in many different situations. But none of them could pry the checkbook out of my back pocket like Erik's creation. I truly look forward to my next love. Will she have 6 gears? Will she be water cooled? What about a smoother gear box? More straight line performance?!?! Only time will tell. Until then, I stand by ready and waiting. (But that doesn’t mean my eyes won’t wander from time to time.) -- This is my "Why didn't I do this in the first place?" look. |

Maybe you should write that check for a second XB. |

The moment they release the next "step up", I will. I just wish I could have gotten something more from the Buell guys at the show than, "You'll like what's coming". What a tease. |

quote: "You'll like what's coming".
They must teach that line during corporate indoctrination. Iv'e heard it so many times that if you blended all the faces together, it would look something like...

Yeah Darth, that's why I'm switching the tail on my S. I know the R's are faster. I'm only going half the route, though. So, my SR will be faster than a regular S but still not as fast as an R. Hey, it's a compromise. (Insert sarcasm all over post.) Rich |

R's are faster, I proved it on the dyno. You only proved a 12 is faster than a 9. |

Stealth rides a 12s, and I beat him as well, I will say I think he would have had better times if he shifted better, just goes to show it is not all about the machine, but the maniac piloting it. |

The S's and R's are the same in speed! Just different seating positions and cosmetic differences! Nowwwww....If you wanna compare the 12's to the 9's................... |

This talk of R's being faster than S's is just silly. Everyone knows bikes aren't fast- riders are. . . . it's just that R riders are faster! |

R's are more stable at speeds over 100 mph because of the fairing, therefore they are faster and yes R riders are typically wilder in their personalities than the S riders. I wanted an S to begin with but the wife said NO to the back seat, I will never look back on bying an R. I did run my bike to the rev limiter and was clocked at 135.900, I was a little dissapointed but then again how often do I ride over 100 mph, not enough to care. Spike, us FASTER R riders should meet on 129 this spring, I am trying to organize a camping trip for the 3% bragging rights club near the "TAIL" in late April or early May. |
