I've read all I can find on the internet about the Alpinestar S-MX3 race boot, but am still not absolutely sure about the "internal ankle brace". Is it a hinged mechanism that controls LATERAL movement of the foot, to reduce chances of breaking the ankle due to a blow from the side? You know, like the Sidi Race Vertebra, except on the inside of the boot. I broke my fibula in February and tore out the medial ligaments. Love the steel plate in my ankle, but I don't care to go thru that again any time soon. Any other boots you know of that have this feature?

Daytona Security was the first with this feature, and the Daytona Evo Sport is the "budget" version Daytona is known for making excellent boots. I have a pair of Daytona Roadstar GTX boots for street use and love them. If I can swing it I'll be getting a pair of Evo Sports for track use for next season. Henrik |

I went and bought the Alpinestar Supertechs. They are really comfortable and don't cost as much as the Daytona. Just a thought. Check em out. They are still expensive but not bad. |

I got the Alpinestar S-MX3 and the ankle brace is a lot more flexible than I expected. I'm sure it will help the next time my ankle meets the road, but I had hoped for more lateral bracing. Live & learn. |

While were on the subject of boots, has anyone tried the Sidi boots with the Tepor waterproof lining? I've heard nothing but good things about the Strada and Vertebra, but I'm curious about the waterproof versions. Mike L. |

I've a pair of the Sympatex (SP?) -- waterproof in a 3 hour pouring down almost frog strangler rain, good support, but not a boot I'd buy for racing style coverage -- longish breakin -- not a deal-killer, but you oughta know b4 buying! |
