Stealthxb posted this link, http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/2004/S432.asp, a few days ago so I checked it out and it sounded like a good idea to send it off to my Congressman. This is the reply I got today... November 29, 2004 Dear Ralph: Thank you for writing to share your concerns about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) as it relates to health insurance coverage of legal recreational activities. It was good to hear from you, and I welcome this opportunity to respond. You may be interested to know that HIPAA was enacted into law on August 21, 1996 to ensure the portability of health coverage by allowing individuals who are changing jobs, or who have lost their jobs, to purchase individual policies. HIPAA also reformed the pre-existing condition limitation in the insurance markets to make sure that individuals who currently have insurance will be able to purchase it in the future. You expressed your support for the Health Care Parity for Legal Transportation and Recreational Activities Act (H.R. 1749). This legislation would prohibit health plan or insurance issuers from denying benefits for injuries sustained in legal recreational activities such as motorcycling, snowmobiling, all-terrain vehicle riding, horseback. H.R. 1749 has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. No further action has occurred on this legislation at this time. Ralph, you may be pleased to know that I am a cosponsor of H.R. 1749. Please know I will keep your support in mind as it is considered by the House of Representatives. Again, thank you for writing. Additionally, if you would like further information about my role as your Congressman, please visit my web page at http://www.nussle.house.gov or contact any of my offices. Sincerely, Jim Nussle Member of Congress You may not reply directly to this email. To reply to this message or to send me an email, please go to http://www.nussle.house.gov/email.htm OK, guys, I'm not a big political watcher but it might be worth our collective time to keep an eye on this. |

that's interesting. Did you tell him that you were not a supporter of this since you ride motorcycles? Just one more way for the insurance companies to screw us over. |

One less way actually (if I read it right). They are trying to remove the ability for the insurance companies to do that. I "think" that bill just passed, so they can no longer do that. |

That is pretty cool Gearhead! All... "A bipartisan bill to end health-care discrimination against motorcyclists and ATVers has cleared the U.S. Senate. The measure, S. 423, now goes to the House for consideration." That is why we need to go to the following URL: http://capwiz.com/amacycle/issues/alert/?alertid=6689456&type=CO and enter your ZIP code. It is as easy as that. |
