I just bought a bare 1999 M2 frame with title and want to build a somewhat custom bike. (I know, I'm a glutton for punishment and it will cost more than it's worth but it will give me and my son something to do together. I'll be using XB fork and wheels but the rest is undetermined at this point. (1)What fuel tanks will fit a '99 M2 frame? (2)Oil tanks? (3)Tail sections? | ||

only m2 tail sections fit without mods, this includes either m2 99+ or pre99. i believe the same goes for the tank 99+ or pre99, the pre99 pieces are narrower, and the stock oil tank is fine(plastic) you can't see it anyway. if you choose to go with a smaller(s1) tail (which is really cool looking) you'll have to do some frame modifications and you can find all that info here on badweb. try a search for dana or bads1 tail section he did a real nice job on his old m2. | ||

S1 gas tank will fit (it'll be just a touch short, but it mounts up just fine) S1 tail sections CAN be made to fit unaltered M2 frames, but it's tough to do well, from all reports -- bads1 basically had the rear of an S1 frame replicated on his M2 -- looked great! | ||

I believe the S3 tail sections fit perfectly on the M2 frame. The smaller tanks are shorter? You sure? | ||

Are you going to have any problems with the XB wheel in the back? I don't believe they're an simple "replacement". I looked into have an S3 frame modified to fit the S1 tail section. It was cheaper for me to get an S1 frame instead. Bomber's correct about how Dana had his done. The guy that did the work has an S1 that he used to build the frame jigs. Unless you're doing the work yourself, expect to pay about $400 to have the work done. Then you also have paint or powdercoat cost to consider. I also REALLY lucky to get a complete S1W (minus motor). I pulled the motor out my S3 and sold the parts I didn't need (including the frame). I believe there's an S1 frame w/title on ebay right now. | ||

Blake -- RE S1 Tanks, yessir, they are, but about 3/8 to 1/2 inch -- the slot for the rear mounting bolt just BARELY is covered by the large plate that fits below the bolt head -- it does fit, it works fine, bit when you first mount it, it looks iffy -- | ||

that tail piece looks like the m2 to s1 carbon fibre conversion kit from RRC in europe(germany?)- or was it that italian place- can't remember but i contacted them about a year ago and o boy was it expensive! like 2 gees or something, however they claimed that it was a complete conversion kit that could be switched back to original m2, really cool but costs it weight in gold and then some! | ||

The tail on Reinharts M2 is a carbon fiber S1 version from Buell.I had one on my 2000 M2,it took some homemade brackets,and i did'nt like the way the angling downward frame tubes were showing and the rear frame loop showed.I got the c.fiber RRC unit straight from them in i think 2001 for $535, no seat,including shipping.It was a heck of a deal looking at the price now. Reinhart must have cut off the rear subframe and redone it like an S1 , to use that tail.It looks absolutely Great. | ||

Thanks for the info, Jrh. The Trojan Horse price for the RRC unit is £650 or $1255.93 - 17.5% (because in the US we don't pay VAT) = $1036.14 plus shipping That includes seat license plate holder and taillight. Pricey, but looks cool.  (Message edited by Half-Fast on December 02, 2004) | ||
