The Cape Spear lighthouse... The pic didn't turn out so great, but it's a big lighthouse, makes a ton of noise, and man was it foggy. Just a little bit of a change in the weather since I had left California. (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

Cape Spear. 5200 miles later, and I was here. Wow. Bill was nice enough to push my bike up the pedestrians only sidewalk to get this pic, I would have preferred to do a wheelie. (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

Now, I had to walk out to the point, and saw this sign. I'm a WWII buff too, so how much does this not suck??? (new quote, stolen from Jerry) (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

And it's a big big rock. The horn or whatever the lighthouse had points in this general direction. Did I mention that it was freakin' loud??? (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

The view from the little gift shop at the lighthouse. Again, more fog. Notice the M2 in the middle of the picture. (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

Thanks CJ. Jerry, at this time, I felt a long way from everywhere. This is an entirely different world, as far as I am concerned. |

The Frenchman from England found this at the gift shop. Too bad it's not DOT approved.

The WWII gun enplacement. Just think of what would have been going on here in the early 40s.

Puffin Island... Full of lots of little puffins, and the mounds of puffin poop they leave behind. Yes, those are white rocks, closely related to yellow snow. (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

This is a little shack that is used by scientists to observe the little guys. I can't imagine getting up there (this island is another big rock that is being pounded by a cold, harsh sea), much less staying there for any amount of time. It was August, and it was pretty darn cold being out on the boat. (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

Whale Tail!!! I believe it was a family of 3 that we saw, this was the only tail that I got a pic of. Turned out pretty darn good though. I believe that the coloration of a whale's tail is like that of a human fingerprint, each one is unique. (Message edited by awprior on November 29, 2004) |

Well this truly does suck. Between this thread and Ferris' I have realized how little fun I am having. I got 2 darn rides in purty places this year, so I am sittin sucky in Kansas. Of course that is compensated by the fact that I got to dine with two Legends Of The Buell: Alex and Ferris. Thanks guys, You are my heros! |

I somehow fubar'd one of my posts... I'm headed off to Iowa in a few months to start designing and building this stuff for John Deere, so I figured I'd snap a pic and send it off to the prople I worked with. \ This was also taken at the port where the whale boat launched. The cool part is, even way up here, there are parts on those tractors that I designed. Too cool. |

>>>I believe that the coloration of a whale's tail is like that of a human fingerprint, each one is unique. That is an accurate statement. It is the pattern, not the coloration. The tail of a whale is known as it's "Fluke" and each one is unique and, therefore, used to identify and track whales. |
