Nice,got any more. I know the first generation S-2 backing plates were fiberglass and did not take too many on/offs to start deteriorating.The replacement was a abs/plastic like the sprocket cover and was not any better.Did you make the aluminum carb spacer/venturi also? | ||

Fella's : let's begin by stating , I'm not comfortable selling or soliciting on this site , not being a sponsor , nor do I wish to be run off from here . Having said that , I have been making stuff like this for years , my XLCR had a hand crafted air cleaner much like what is shown above , that one had a dellorto behind it , so this is nothing new or ground breaking , it's one of the things I make occasionally. Why am I even responding to this ?? * I like you guys. * I havn't had a paycheck for a month now. * ebay , pisses me off !! * I'm bored and need stuff to do . Oh , I will need some information ( much like a tailor making a fine suit would need ) , such as , what air filter element will be used 1.5"? , 3" ? , is there a specific angle you would want it to be positioned=( same as frame rail ? ) , plastic venturi=( cheaper $ ) , or aluminum +$. I'm not aware of a commercially available part , exactly like what is shown above , these are made one by one , by hand , as needed ,on a hobby level , by caring hands , in a grass roots environment Any further discussion must be carried on offline , sorry but I'd rather not , upset the custodians of this site | ||

You also get extra credit for not being sneaky and trying to do this on the sly. If you are uncomfortable with that, and this may not be a bad idea, send one of them to Al at American Sportbike, have him give it a blessing, add his mark-up and let us know how much. That does TWO big things: 1) Al saying "it's soup" carries great weight with most of us. 2) It gives you a wonderful vehicle to move the things you produce for "occasion non-commercial production". What the............ I need to get some 1/8" 6061 aluminum sheet stock , I'll do that today , the price of metal has gone stupid !! recently. I was at the metal supplier twice last week buying some 1018 , 4140 , 304 SS etc. , pricing of raw materials will impact the net cost of whatever I happen to be making at the time , be it air cleaners , tools or what have you. I will be contacting those who are interested once I have material on hand to make a small batch of parts. To those who have responded , thank's | ||

3" element,slanted same as stock S-2,aluminum venturi.We all appreciate your efforts,Hoser, and wish we could do the same stuff,but lack tools and/or proficiency,so thanks and name your price. | ||

Hoser... given that roughly half the people asking for the parts are Custodians, I think you are OK  That being said, starting a relationship with Al sounds like a possible path to accidentally finding yourself un-unemployed | ||

I'd suggest an improvement, if I may: have a flange bent outwards on the top and bottom. running an inch or two, to keep the filter from drooping. Also, though somewhat more time consuming, mine has six stand-offs (three at each end, top, middle, and bottom of the curve) to position the filter.  . This one lacks the flange. And the cool aluminum venturi. For materials, I go to a scrap metal dealer near the airport. $2/pound, whether its bar stock, plate, or pipe. (Message edited by sportyeric on November 29, 2004) | ||

Jim : thank's . it will need a bit more forward tilt to clear the fuel cell cover when using a 3" element. Some exhaust systems can create clearance issues too , the location of the carb throat hole can be positioned to deal with both of these , when necessary. | ||

Henrik : your venturi will work Bill : I doub't I would be able to make stuff by hand , one by one , doing it full time , as an alternative to actual 40 hr /week employment. I have been doing this as a supplement to my fulltime paycheck , on a limited , first come , first served basis , as time allows . Right now , I have time to putter around , kinda enjoying it too( except for the lack of $$$). I'm scheduled to return to work in mid January , attending courses will be happening at that time , as with every year when working at a dealership. Eric : thank's for the suggestion , I'll consider it , complexity adds to the net cost though. | ||

The metal stand-offs look like a good idea for stabilizing the filter. Would the flange be necessary in addition to the stand-offs?? Henrik | ||
