so quit being mean to me because i asked for advise, im an adult, not some punk stoner kid on crack... This request for mercy brought to you by the guy who told me to kiss his arse! But we're supposed to treat him like an adult, right? Against my own better judgement I'm gonna try to do you a favor, Jack. I'm going to once again in a non-hostile tone point out the places you went wrong: Part 1 - The bike: 1)Hammers and prying tools don't belong anywhere near the triple tree. There is obviously quite alot you did in your attempted installation of the triple tree that is questionable or downright wrong. I'm not picking on you about it, I'm trying to make you realize why it broke. 2)You've now admitted in your most recent post that your bike was wrecked. How bad was the damage, and to what part(s) of the bike? Who put it back together? Are you sure everything is straight? Perhaps a damaged fork tube could have caused your triple tree fitment problems? Once again, I don't know the answer, I'm just raising the question. Part 2 - The motor company: 1)Having learned all that we have about your bike's history and your questionable assembly procedures it is quite easy to figure out that you have no business getting angry at (or demanding a replacement tree from) Dave, your local dealer, myself, Buell, or anyone else. Yet you are trying to get Buell to pay for your mistake through your local dealer. That is the same as theft, and it is not cool at all. 2)I could have believed you didn't know any better, but after being told repeatedly by almost every other person who has participated in this thread that your assembly procedure was incorrect, you have continued to try to argue your position. At that point you are no better than any of the long list of customers I've had who refuse to listen to logic and continue to try to make the dealer or manufacturer pay for the individual's mistake. I'm not trying to be mean to you here, I'm simply trying to point out that you could have saved face and integrity if you had simply responded to everyone's advice by explaining that you didn't know you were doing anything wrong and then moved on. Had you done that it would have been over a long time ago. Part 3 - The internet: 1)You vented your story here and placed your own head upon the chopping block for all to analyze. However, you don't seem to realize that any time you do that you must deal with the responses you have invited, be they favorable or disfavorable. You received a string of disfavorable responses. I'm sorry they didn't agree with your position, but it was nice to see that most of the people on BadWeb understand logic and told it to you like it is. As I said before, it was downright refreshing to witness people telling you what is right, rather than simply jumping on the dealer bashing band wagon. 2)Out of all of the people who responded to you, you chose to jump on me. Most likely in your mind I make the best target because I am a Buell dealer employee. What you failed to realize is that in doing this for a living I've run into hundreds of arguments just like this over the last 22 years. I've had customers who purchased a bike in perfect working order, only to return a couple of days later with a hole in the case and all of the engine mount bolts, inner primary bolts, rocker box bolts, and head bolts loose, then claim that it must have been defective when they bought it and they want me to fix it for free. That situation is no different than yours. This particular customer had taken his new bike home and decided he would do all of his performance mods himself. When he realized he was in over his head he attempted to put it back together and screwed it up. He later admitted it to me, but not before trying to get $5800.00 worth of repairs for free. If you had dealt with those situations all of these years you would have smelled a rat after reading your initial post too. I smelled a rat and said so. You chose to take up an argument with someone who does this for a living. A bad choice, IMO. 3)You took it personally. I'll revert back to my earlier statement about taking it personally. If you ask, you'd better be prepared for the truth. If it hurts you'd better be prepared to deal with that too. 4)You got hostile and started ripping into me about a condescending attitude, or something similar to that. There was no call for you to behave like that. Others saw what you were doing and lost even more respect for you. Not because of me, but because they all know if you would treat me like this you would treat any of them the same way, given the opportunity. 5)You started name calling. That doesn't even require an explanation. Just don't do it. It never goes anywhere good. 6)No one cares how much money you make. You have no clue what any of us do, or what our positions in life are. Perhaps I'm worth millions and choose to work in the motorcycle biz because its fun and I need something to do with my time. If that is the case you sure wouldn't be impressing me with your statements. Or perhaps I'm barely scraping by in life and your statements about money just make me resent the crap out of you. Either way you haven't made a friend. 7)This is a motorcycle website. No one cares about football. 8)You demand to be treated like an adult, but then you act like a child. I don't know how Dave is dealing with your situation (or if he is at all), but I can tell you that if you had purchased the part from me and then admitted that you accidentally broke it I would have sold you the replacement part at cost to try to make it easier on you. However, having acted the way you did I probably wouldn't have wanted to sell you a replacement part at any price. Your business just wouldn't be worth it to me under those circumstances. If you learn nothing else from this whole situation you should at least absorb these two points: 1)You need to learn how to perform a particular service or repair BEFORE getting out your first tool. 2)In the event that things go wrong you'll get a hell of a lot farther with sugar than you will with vinegar. 3)NO SNIVELING! |

Thats why i didn`t bother to get the Extended Warranty with my Buell because whatever goes wrong with the bike the Dealer will find some bullsh!t way to say that it was the owner fault. Buells get assembled incorrectly at the factory or assembled with crappy parts and the Dealer then tells its customer its there fault or its not covered under warranty. Parts such as Belts, footpegs, Triple Clamps, Wheel Bearings, Steering Head Bearings, Engine Isolaters, Spark Plugs stripped, and many other misc. stipped bolts fail all the time. These parts break and the Dealer tell you about some mysterious pry mark or about abuse, or how the muffler you put on overstressed the belt or wheel bearing. Or my favorite the belt failed because the tire is the same size, but not the same band as what came on the bike originally. Sooner or later people will realize that Buells are junk. |

The funny thing here is that most of the bitching is being done by ones THAT STILL OWN THEIR BUELL! If it sucks so bad, sell the damn thing and get off this board. LAst time something didnt work the way that I wanted it to, I got a divorce! If you keep it, fix it and enjoy it!

>>>Sooner or later people will realize that Buells are junk. Dude...we keeping you from an Optimist Club meeting? Frankly, we didn't intend to make a fool of you, but neither did we intend you to commit stupicide. Take a look at the experiences owners are reporting and you'll see that your "rant to reality ratio" makes you appear to be either not that bright or a liar. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt by assuming you really believe what you are saying. Might as well go on over the the whinery, my experience has been that folks with this attitude tend to exhibit in other areas of their life. Take a break for a while and when you can act like a grown up, conduct a conversation and learn to solve problems rather than waste effort blaming others scurry on back and see me. Court Canfield |

That why if broken I take to dealer. That up it on them. I work on car,but I'm not harley or by far motorcycle mech. I like read tricks on getting more performance. To scare to act on it due to warrenty and something. Most people will never ride their bike to it max performance unless there on the track maybe not even then. My 2 cents let pros work on the bike it save you money in the long run. |

(Thinkin' of getting the CityX to keep her company). Any input on the CityX would be much appreciated! (Message edited by 04petes8k on November 28, 2004) |

These discussions about Buells are junk go on and on and on. My '03 XB9R has 43,855 miles on it and runs like a scalded dog (or it would if I rode that way). Here's the list of replaced parts: 1 set front and rear brake pads 1 battery 4 front tires, 7 back tires 1 speedo sensor 1 set plug wires 2 drive belts and pulleys 1 O2 sensor the front and rear wheel bearings covered by Buell the front brake rotor covered by Buell All the work, including oil changes have been done at the dealership. I get excellent service and have ridden as far east as Portland, Maine and as far west as Arizona. Buells Rule! Treat the folks at the dealer with respect, ask them for their opinions, and always thank them for the work they do. I have techs falling over each other to work on my bikes because they know I will appreciate the job they do. |

Let's see, I was told by those of less knowledge that my Buell wouldn't make it to 1K without leaking or breaking down. Let's see, I have 1500 miles on it with no leaks, no breakdowns, and it starts every time. Wow eh? Oh, but wait, someone in our group just had her 2003 YZF 600 lose it's 2nd gear. Ate it right up. Funny no? I've kept my comments to myself with her on this. I'll just save it for a good time. |

I don't see what the problem is with the bike?????? I got mine 1year 4 months ago and now have 22,000 miles on it and I have had no problems with it. It sounds like its the rider not the bike. And if you think you can build a better bike build it smarty pants.... |

"Sooner or later people will realize that Buells are junk" Shame on me. I've had mine going on three years and I haven't figured it out yet. Maybe I'm just too stupid to realize I wasted my hard-earned money on "junk"...or I'm in denial. Yeah, that's the ticket! Denial. No, wait... I fell down and bumped my head, yeah, that's it! Anyone wanna buy my M2? Gotta dump it 'fore anybody else catches on... |

Gosh Darn, I am feeling really stupid right now. I have had my bike for over 10,000 miles. The only problem I had was bearings, and can you believe it, Buell paid for those and even put'em on for free. problem wasn't mine it was there's. How many people on the XB board. I will error on the low side and just throw out 100 users. Even at those odds, I have never had any bad advice. If I get to a point of something dosn't feel right(i.e. forcing something) I'll come here and ask. If I don't and it screws up, I guess I'll have to chew that one over for a while. Every one of us have made at least one mistake somewhere in our life. Chalk it up to a lesson learned DJ. It doesn't feel good, but you are that much smarter now. |

"How many people on the XB board. I will error on the low side and just throw out 100 users." Higher. Close to 1,000 and growing by about 100-200 per month. |
