DAY 21, cont. i included some people in this shot to help give a sense of scale. there's no way to adequately describe the Grand Canyon, nor any way to capture the magnificence via a puny little camera - this place scoffs at such futile endeavors. speaking of people, there were way too many for my liking - i struggle sharing a religious experience like this with even a few humanoids, much less a crowd. i grabbed several pix and quickly moved on. DAY 21, cont. this is more like it. down the road a piece there was a small trailhead with no cars parked nearby. after looking both directions to make sure the coast was clear i deftly slipped the 'Strom around the boulders that had been carefully arranged to prevent such an undertaking as i was undertaking (JB2, you'd have been SO proud! ) and proceeded to put my adventure-touring motorcycle to good use. DAY 21, cont. it may not surprise you to know i'd ridden several hundred yards down a "pedestrian only" walkway to get these last two shots. nobody seemed to mind. hey, i may be on a Suzuki but i'm still Ferris Bueller, after all. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 28, 2004) |

DAY 21, cont. hard to see in the pic but i'd had to four-wheel drive it to get the bike up to this spot - the view seemed to warrant a photo, and spur of the moment i whipped a left and did some modest hill climbing to get up here. (i know JB2 is grinnin' as he reads this. ) so, didya notice the little green things by the front tire? (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 28, 2004) |

DAY 21, cont. ...and the new bridge. i snagged the photo below from the internet, to give a better idea how cool this place is. "The new Navajo Bridge in Grand Canyon National Park is the only crossing of the Colorado River for a stretch of 965 km (600 miles). The $15 million steel arch bridge carries traffic across Marble Canyon, 143m (470 feet) above the Colorado River. The 1929 Navajo Bridge remains a pedestrian bridge. High strength steel was used in the new bridge in order to be visually compatible with the historic bridge and its setting." (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 29, 2004) |
