I can't be the only one... I was performing a TPS reset on my XB using my spanking new Technoresearch software (btw - it works great and as advertised) and went to back off the idle adjustment. While backing it out a turn, the tension got tight and the allen head fitting came clean off the cable!! I think the threads on the idle screw on the throttle body needs a little lubing. Anyhow... Anyone else hear of this? I was able to finish the TPS and set the idle, but man it was a b!tch. I don't think the idle adjust cable is sold separately from the throttle body. If anyone's got one off a junker, I'd be glad to shell a couple of clams for it. I live in Sicily, Italy and don't have access to a dealer that is cool about dealing in salvage parts. I've thought about taking a drill bit and reaming out the stem on the allen fitting, filling it with JB Weld or something similar and re-inserting the cable end, but am skeptical about the torque capacity of such a repair, and figure it'll just come off again.  | ||

Tork, you also might want to look at the "You might want to fix this" thread I started a few weeks ago. I have seen a few idle adjustment cables, mine included, that are rubbing on the cylinder head bolts and then beginning to rust. That would surely make them bind up. I know mine was very hard to move in the beginning....Odie | ||

Mine is very tough to adjust too. I don't have the rubbing and rusting problem,not has it broken off, but adjusting it is a PITA. One of these days I'm gonna take it off, lube it and see how it adjusts when its loose. It should adjust smoothly IMO. | ||

Odie, I'll keep an eye on the cylinder head bolt issue when I replace the cable. I ordered a new one from Dave. What did you do to loosen yours up? Putting the new one in should be fun. -Rob "Tork" | ||

Tork, I just slowly put pressure one way then the other until it loosened up a good bit. I have been messing with my idle as I mess with my Techlusion and it is still a little tight but I think that is by virtue of the design more than anything. I'm sure a little lube wouldn't hurt. Yep, Mine was stubborn as hell so I checked it with the airbox off for a plug change. What I found was that the housing had melted to the cylinder head. After breaking it loose and working it back and forth it freed up. I think it can be a combination of what I just described and running the treads to its limits (I had been holding idle up to adjust my Techlusion TFI), and possibly dry threads. I'm going to put some anti-seize on the threads before I put the airbox back on. xbolt12 |
