i just got the HID hooked up on the low beam of my lightning. it is intensely bright, about as much light as the other three lights combined ( three 55 watt PIAA halogens) seems to have kept the same sharp cutoff low beam pattern, did not see any distortion, or "holes" in the illumination. supposed to use only 35 watts, but i did not actually measure. there are two extra fuse positions in the stock fuse box, labeled "spare". i ran one of the spare fuses to the key switch relay, and used that with a 15 amp fuse to power the HID ballast. the ballast and igniter fit snugly behind the flyscreen. with the low beam thus wired, it stays on with the ignition on, regardless of the hi beam switch. in this way i have one extremely bright, very white (4300K) low beam, which stays on all the time, and the PIAA super white auxiliaries wired via relay to come on with the hi beam switch. sourced from xenondepot.com |

the HID draws 3.8 amps when warmed up, about double that for the 8 seconds warm up period. taht was with the engine off, and loaded battery voltage down to 12.5 so if the lamp is only getting 35 watts, some power is being consumed in the ballast i guess. damn bright though. |

Nice work FP, I know you've been dreaming of HID's for a long time! Let us know if you notice any issues with power draw, any plans to do the same for the high beam? I see on xenondepot.com they have H1 and H4 kits...no H3 for the firebolt I guess? |
