I rode a xb12r today and didn't like it. i rode a 2000 X1 about three weeks ago and loved it. i have a carberated '00 M2 with pro series intake and vance and hines exhaust. its starting to do the harley leak at 8000 miles and its been in the shop three times this summer. i have a friend that has a '99 black X1 that he doesn't ride much (he built his own chopper) and will trade straight up is it worth it? or should i buy the 2000 X1 for $5400. or keep and rebuild the M2 |

rebuild the M2. Find a nice 'race' style header and muffler, open the air box, Mikuni carb. As good as it gets for stock. |

For $5400 you could turn the M2 into a real monster, But! you might not like the results. I'm biased, I like the look of the M2 tank better. I do like the X1's tail section..... I'd take Kevyn's advice, and do the upgrades, like the better primary chain tensioner, metal gaskets, and a catch can for the vent system. |

The M2 is the greatest Motorcycle ever made. What do you mean by "re-build" it? You just have a rockerbox leak right? |

Besides the S2 of course, the M2 would be my next. |

I like the lines of an x-1 better and they look great in black. But the M-2 is a simpler bike due to carb and not injection. You know your m-2, I would keep it. |

I own a 2000 X1 and I love it. Check the X1 Files ( http://www.saintjohn.nbcc.nb.ca/Marriott/x1/ ) and make your own decision. However, be advised that a lot of what is posted there applies to Tuber's in general and not just the X1's. That said, the newer the X1 the better. I had my dealer put all the 2001 upgrades (except the shifter) on my 2000 at my cost, which wasn't much, and really like it. Of the three model years, the 1999 was the first year and had the most problems as well as the heavy flywheel. In conclusion, if you want an X1 check for the upgrades in addition to the bikes overall condition. However, if you like your M2, keep it and make it into whatever you want it to be. I don't think you can go wrong either way. |

Good call. I agree with Outrider. Then again I do ride an M2, so there's my "neutral" answer. |

What's an M2? Wasn't the X1 a WWII German rocket? I thought this was a BUELL board??? Lornce

stick with the M2, unless you have a thing for bikes with stunted steering radii- anyone wants my S3 frontend in trade for their M2 (and a small bit o' cashish) is welcome to 'em. world of difference between the M2 and everything else, due to the nice conventional forks |

Jan, I tried to decide between X1's and M2's... eventually bought an '02 X1 (it rocks) but, as a few people said to me, I think I would have been happy with either! You could also check these threads from when I was looking: SpeedTriple vs X1 vs M2 SpeedTriple vs X1 vs M2 continued M2 or X1? I don't think you can lose either way! cheers, lemonchili aka gixxer851 |

well i decided. i bought a 03 xb9r and kept the m2. the m2 has a rear base gasket leak and a leak under the oil filter. the xb was raced chain conversion full race fairing nice overall bike. now that i have a little bit of tuber a little bit of xb and a little blast haha little. i'm well on my way to an addiction. |

Tough choice... Thinking about the 05 Speed Triple in black, bad asz looking ride. My Y2K M2 is paid for and all the bugs have been worked out with the great help of this group. After all the break downs/mods I know the bike like the back of my hand which is what biking is all about anyway isn't it? Guess I'll have to ride the ST to get a feel. Then think hard on parting with 10g's... |
