Let me apologize up front for asking this question. But I can't seem to figure it out from the web site. Can someone explain to me the major differences between the Lightning City-X, the Lightning, and the Firebolt? |

Glitch -- Not really. You may have noticed, marketing speak is always purposely obscure. I have the DVD, been to the site... very little comparison data, and the info is pretty non-judgemental. Very unhelpful. But I guess that's typical. Here's what I have learned: Firebolt - Track oriented, lower bars, higher pegs, wind protection Lighting - Street oriented, little wind protection, more comfortable due to higher bars and lower pegs. Lightning City X - Wider bars for more leverage in tighter (i.e. City) environments. Anyone have anything else to add? (Message edited by diomedes on November 18, 2004) |

The city has a 984cc engine while the Lightning has a 1203cc engine. I think those are the right sizes. The firebolt can be had with either engine size. |

CityX sits taller due to a thicker seat than the standard Lightning, there is also the Lightning cg (center of gravity, or low version). The very best thing to do is to get to a good dealer and take a seat on all three (four if the cg is a consideration). If you find a good dealer, which someone here will be able to help point you in the right direction, you will be able to get good information and a feel for the bikes and their differences. Or, if you have any other questions you can always call me. 800-342-7539 ext. 213 I will be at work today at 10:00 til 7:00 central time. Craig Buell Cycle Center |

Thanks everyone. So far it seems like riding position is the main difference, but that the bikes are very similar otherwise. I haven't even ridden one and already I'm a big fan. (Message edited by diomedes on November 18, 2004) |

The bikes are extremely similar. Same general rolling assembly, basically just a different front fairing, top triple clamp, rear sub-frame, and foot pegs between the two models. Craig |

Jeremy, thats already been listed, and he did mention that he has looked there and has the CD and was looking for more info. But everyone needs to go to the site once in a while to check for new stuff, hmmm, I think I'll do that right now. |

The PDF on the CD (finally got around to printing it out on a good color laser) is a great brochure, and has a bunch of information I did not see anywhere else. I think that "printable brochure" is on the site as well. |

Think about how you're going to ride it. It wears you out sitting upright on a long high-speed ride without any wind protection. The bent over can get hard on your wrists if you cruise around town a lot. |
