Bound to happen sooner or later. Got ready to go riding, noticed small blotch of oil on garage floor. fulled lower fairing, wiped everything down clean. started bike and found leak..can someone tell me what this is, and what I need to do.
what is this fitting called?
will it get worse and worse?
can I ride it to the dealer for repair?

Looks like the oil pressure sensor sender. Can you ride it? If its just a dribble yes you can. If it turns into a jet of oil, I wouldn't recommend it.

What causes it to go bad?

Could be a number of things which make it go bad. Vibration, rocks, bad crimping. Could have just been one that got by quality control and onto your bike. Nonetheless, easy fix. Get ready to ride!

when installing new sensor, should I tighten it in, until no threads are showing? I have threads showing on my original one.
