I'm no expert on tires. Please if you use take-offs street tires or race take-offs look at the bead and inspect the side walls and center. Remember race tires are made for higher speeds and harder riding conditions. Also with race tires you have more rubber to road contact and not made for all-weather road conditions and rain. The newer tires that are( street perf.) are great tires. Riding with a tire that you feel confident with is important. Cold weather is coming and the cooler roads make the tire heat up slower and if you stop for a bit remember warm up tires before going in a sharp curve. This is no speech just a reminder to inspect tires. Air pres. is very important! A real good rider is gone and last words were about the poor tires on his bike and pushing it to hard. Ride your own ride! Ride safe ! Think twice and save your own life! | ||

Nobody from the board. A old friend from Boston, mass. I met when I was about 13 yrs old. He had the old three wheeler with balloon tires. I never rode one before and there was a track not far from my cousin's house that I was staying at for the summer. I lasted about two jumps and went into a sharp turn and lost it. He was really cool about the damage and my well-being.He had a lot of talent and a good rep. for being a safe rider. | ||

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. There is another thing about tires. Track tires can stand less heat up cycles than street tires. This is something you need to watch if you buy used but visually good track tires for the street. | ||

Sorry to hear about your friend. I always makes me really sad when I hear something like this. He had a lot of talent and a good rep. for being a safe rider. I heard people say the same thing about you after your adventures in Boone :-) It always scares the p**s out of me when someone gets hurt who is a better rider than me. If they are an idiot you can always comfort yourself by saying that it won't happen to you because you are safer. But when it happens to someone good, you have to face the fact that bad things just happen sometimes. | ||

Sorry to hear about the loss of a friend. Didn't hogs or someone start a big thread about this not to long ago? Seems the riders telling him not to use race tires on the street were right. | ||

Rodney wasn't a real good friend, just a cool guy from the good old days in my youth growing up. Thanks anyway! I just hate hearing about any rider going down! I started the thread cause I see a lot of scary tires on bikes that people risk and hope to spread the word. Tires and tire pres. is very important. Check and inspect them ! | ||

I see a lot of scary tires on bikes that people risk and hope to spread the word I'll agree with that. What I find quite a bit of is people complaining about their tires yet still running 'em. Example- Guy running Bridgestone kept complaining that they 'slipped' on him around corners. Within 2 weeks he low-sided in a corner right into two Gold Wings. (Everyone was OK) If you are having performance issues with a tire shouldn't you ummm... change it out??? I have a friend who shall remain nameless that is running race take-offs right now. They are almost bald and he rides 2-up. He's getting tires for Christmas but.... A few extra miles on a tire could be the difference between life or death and is it really worth it to get that 'few extra miles'?? If you can't afford safe tires you shouldn't be riding till you can. Would you jump out of an airplane with a cheap parachute?? |
