DAY FIFTEEEN, cont. to be honest, i took this shot simply to provide a later reminder as to where i took the FOLLOWING shot. it was later that JB2 informed me that this is the home of NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, aka...the Rushville Rocket. cool. DAY FIFTEEN, cont. couldn't figure out a way in the limited time we had to grab a shot of this COOL old building in Rushville without including a bunch of surrounding clutter, but did the deal anyway as the building deserved to be shown off. love stuff like this, and it's yet another stunning reminder of a completely different era and mindset. DAY FIFTEEN, cont. this is where JB2 earns his keep, Jones Auto Body in Muncie, Indiana, and the boys were amped to see their friend and co-worker again and hear some of his tales from the road after having been in the wind for the past two weeks. i was busy trying to catch a cool shot of the obvious camaraderie of this group, but still managed to hear the good-natured banter bouncing back and forth, and it's plainly apparent that this is a great place to work. L-R: Dustin Hale, Rob Arison, JB2, and Kenny Fannin. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 11, 2004) |

DAY FIFTEEN, cont. this is Aaron McAshlan, "reading" the paint on the V-Strom. remember i mentioned earlier that JB2 is gonna paint all the yellow on the bike this winter to match the black? (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 11, 2004) |

DAY FIFTEEN, cont. well, Aaron's got their DuPont Chroma-Vision camera out and is reading the black paint so that when i ship the body work off to JB2 they've already got a paint code to go by. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 11, 2004) |

DAY FIFTEEN, cont. that's JB2's boss Brian Huffman with the camera. he and Aaron read the black paint in three different places on the bike, taking a great deal of time to insure that they were getting a good, consistent reading. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 11, 2004) |

DAY FIFTEEN, cont. and here's the coolest part: the black on the V-Strom isn't black at all, it's actually International Harvester Royal Blue - a TRACTOR color! just kidding about the tractor part, but it WAS a bit of a revelation for us all to come up with an I-H color code. this exact mix popped up three times out of three on the camera, and i know after the excellent job that JB2 did matching and painting Alex Prior's tank for the RANE Ride this summer that the camera don't lie. i want to thank the gang at Jones Auto Body for treating me like an old friend, and for taking so much interest in the upcoming project on the Strom. like i said above, it's really obvious that this is a cool place to work. you can tell that the boys take their work serious, that they kick some Muncie butt, and that they have a lot of fun in the process. thanks guys. (ps: does it take a lot of training to become a Flop Control Agent???) (Message edited by jerry_haughton on November 11, 2004) |

DAY FIFTEEN, cont. speaking of the boys at Jones, during our "debriefing" they asked if we had ridden thru the hurricane tropical depression. oh yeah, we said. here's the cool deal: had they had an unobstructed view from the shop, they could have SEEN the hurricane tropical depression! this series of photos was taken a few minutes north of Muncie, on Highway 3, and is...Hurricane tropical depression Ivan. i'm like a lot of folks, i suspect, in that something barely exists if you don't experience it yourself. hey, it's on TV, on the news, and i know it's real, but i'm not there, and because of that it's a lot LESS real. SOMEthing like that, anyway. i wonder how many people in this part of Indiana today had NO IDEA that the oddly-circular set of clouds off to the east was Hurricane tropical depression Ivan. sometimes the difference between "real" and "on TV" is only just a few miles. DAY FIFTEEN, cont. i'm REALLY pleased that i got these shots - it took a little extra effort and desire to do so, and i think it's a pretty unique perspective of Hurricane tropical depression Ivan. if there are any "stitchers" lurking (Reindog Forger Tom?), feel free to glue these images together here if you can and let's see what we end up with. at some point i'll have this series printed and framed. it's not often that one rides a motorcycle thru the middle of a hurricane tropical depression, and it's not often you get one on film. today has been quite a day. FB - Next time you go to visit Ed, leave the Nikon at home. Take an Olympus Stylus. They're water resistant. |

The signs in that field could be an indication of trying out experimental types of corn. In Denmark there is continuous testing going on, trying to improve on the different grain families. Currently, organic grain types are being grown and improved upon in an attempt to eliminate the use of weed killers, hormones, excess fertilizers etc. while maintaining a profitable outcome. Could be something like that. Henrik |

hey Dino ol' pal, since you seem to have SO much time on your hands today... ...can you find on the 'net an image of some sort of Ivan from this day, something along the lines of a sat picture or radar image, perhaps with state lines superimposed to give some sense of scale, and post it here? thanks pal (you closet V-Strom lover, you!) |

Two pieces of bad news: (1) The NOAA satellite photo archive only carries images for the last 21 days. (2) Those are not photos of a hurricane. Ivan was downgraded to a tropical depression on 9/17/04. (you closet V-Strom lover, you!) Sing along with me now..."If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life..." |

Actually, it went from Cat 1 hurricane to a tropical storm on 9/16 to a tropical depression on 9/17. |

well crap, just spent some time sniffing the 'net and keep getting the same info you posted above (not that i ever doubted you). man, i honestly didn't know. looks like i need to edit the word "hurricane" outta all my posts above. hmmm, somehow bragging about riding thru a "tropical depression" doesn't have the same cachet. it sure was wet, tho. "Denise, we got any Pacifico's in the fridge?"

The building in Rushville is the courthouse. Most small communities like Rushville and my own hometown of Hartford City have their courthouses built on a square by itself and are constructed out of good 'ole Indiana limestone. Many beautiful old courthouses exist in our state. The seed/field trials are also a common sight along the two lane highways of this Hoosier state. Ferris I believe that Flop Control Agents are in high demand right now and you'd probably make a good income of such a profession. However, that said, the biggest draw on this job sector is the Democratic party. Good luck! |

FB - I told Char about my inducing your topical depression. She said I had a bad habit of wetting people's dreams. I replied that there is nothing wrong with wet dreams. She rephrased her remark to something about raining on people's parades..which seemed apropos to a hurricane/tropical depression discussion. |
