2002 S3T - I'm a whole 140 pounds - preload is backed way off and I've played with the compression / rebound. I guess the thing is never going to get any smoother after break-in. Is there a shop that can install a lighter spring - maybe I have to go with a whole new shock? Thanks for any help. Dennis | ||

I have the OPPOSITE problem - preload just barely adequate for my 18+ stone. Stating the obvious, it's a pull shock, so make sure you are making the shock longer to decrease preload (actually ride height). You might actually try going the other way as I think as one increases the ride height, the spring preload is really reduced (lower initial rate). The board pundits will leap on this so be prepared.   Oz Or you can ride it to Buffalo this summer and I'll sit on it for an hour or two - that'll learn it! | ||

S3T - you might want to pick up a Ridgid E-110 Offset Hex Pipe Wrench ($24 at Home Depot) it fits both shock nuts & the offset works nicely. You can find the factory baseline adjustments here: Knowledge Vault » Suspension It's a good starting point. Also, take a look at this: Ducati's 999R and see if the description of the suspension characteristics sound/feel familiar... (there IS a reason). I had to change my front springs to a higher rate quite quickly - it helped A LOT! My S3T seems happiest when set up so I can drive over a dime and tell if it's heads or tails. Seriously, I can forgive the suspension that rattles my teeth at 30mph every time it lets me flow through a turn at 65 or 70, smooth as glass... Oz Still willing to sit on it for 'ya... ;{) | ||

Oz thanks for the direction on the factory settings - I only played with them once (except the preload which I've had back and forth), and they seemed o.k. - now I have some info that I can use to go back and recheck - thanks again. dennis |
