Hutch - the guy did get a talking to but his ego is really in the way. He was blaming that "gold wheeled Buell" ridden by a buddy of mine and EVERYBODY who saw the crash happen said that the other guys were NOT EVEN close - he just choked and didn't own up to it. Todd and his instructors said that since Sportbike Track Time started, they could only remember one other bone-headed maneuver as bad as that one. Like you said, the passing rider has the responsibility to make a clean pass!! Sunny gave him an earful while I was still out talking to the ambulance attendants and loading up the bike. Hope somehow he learned something but more often than not, you only hope these ego-maniacs can learn. I just wish HIS learning experience didn't end up costing me another couple thousand bucks |

Hutch, We're pitting together with Bartel's Jeff Ecklund. He's racing a pretty stock XB9 and we've been working together dyno tuning both bikes and Bill Bartels is making available their pit trailer, tools and may even send up a semi-pro wrench We're covered but for sure, if you do come up, stop in and say HI! Formula USA is almost a club-like race. Even though it's a National series, it's still really casual in the pits. Besides, it's kinda cool seeing what everybody else has done with the other bikes - just cruising the pits is an education for me every time. Still don't know where we're coming up with the money for the last minute goodies but heck, we're going! |

Steve, Sorry to hear about the mishap. Glad you are OK. I'll be in Vegas too. I'll be in Hoban Bros pits helping Jeff Johnson. See you there! Timbo |

I have been missing all of the SCAB meetings because my wife works nights now and I have children, that will soon change because I found a good babysitter. But- I want to get my tickets for the Moto GP this year now- could somebody please tell me what camping package I need to get so I can camp near the Love Shack? It will be me and my wife, probably in her car unless there is need for a chase vehicle for you guys riding up, in that case I'll take my Jeep and little trailer. Anyway please let me know... |

Sorry you missed Octoberfast Charlie. Give Al at American Sport Bike a ping. If he couldn't point you to somebody to ride with he can point out the best roads down there. Hope you enjoy your stay in Cali. |

heads up to anyone contemplating the Glendale Buell/H-D ride up to Lake Isabella, etc. on Sunday. not sure what the weekend forecast says, but be advised the season has turned the corner up here in a big way. it's been REALLY cold for several weeks, and has been raining now for several days. it's cold enough that i'd be very surprised if there isn't new snow on the Bostrom (Hwy 155) and the Western Divide/Mighty 190 between here and Springville. For those who didn't get the email notice, Glendale Buell Club's ride for October will be the last one for this year. We meet Halloween morning at 8 am & leave at 8:30 from the dealer. First stop is the Hurley's for coffee & donuts, then off to Tehachapi via T-W Rd, over Caliente-Bodfish into Lake Isabella and lunch at Cheryl's in Kernville, one of Ferris's many favorites. FB, see ya there for lunch? If ya couldn't make OctoberFast and want to see God's country before Mother Nature messes up the place, come on down! But please arrive with a full tank and an empty bladder, and don't forget to set yer clock back 1 hr. For more info, maps, etc. email Sparky. |

update on Lake Isabella weather: has been REAL nice the last several days, sunny and blue, mid to upper 60's (maybe even into the 70's) during the day, cold enough to see your breath in the morning, but goes away quickly once the sun gets to work. they're calling for the same tomorrow. still snow in the shadows at higher elevations, but the roads are long since clear. the Lion's Trail (Bodfish-Caliente Road) between Hwy 58 and Lake Isabella is guaranteed to be dirty from the rains, and will include the occasional rock, certainly cows, and the ever-present industrial-sized cow pies, so relax and enjoy. y'all have a safe, fun ride. got this e-mail from Unibear, and it's too good not to share. Glenn, hope you don't mind! Hello FB&D, Great day today weather wise. Had a good ride up to meet with the Glendale group at the Diner. Didn't drop in cuz you posted on badweb you would be busy today. If you heard/saw a loud blue S3T rapping you a salute in W.H. it was me. Got it Saturday and while its early I think I'm really going to like it. Good by sporty, hello two Buells. Had to roll home quick to dress up as the Grim Reaper to escort the youngest around my hood and RIPPED past a chippie shortly before the curves. So kicked back I didn't even LOOK at him till I realized a white door just went by. Oh yes 80 by his door no less and I knew I was toast so I pulled off as soon as I saw his brake lights. He came flying back to me, then past with his lights on, then flipped a U and when half way back to where he first Ued and picked a big chunk of something dangerous out of the road. Then he stared at me, as I nonchalantly checked out things on my bike while I waited on him. I think we both were trying to figure what to do next. He finally backed up to me, uncorked the PA and the mountains shook with "THE SPEED LIMIT IS NOT 80 MPH, YOU NEED TO SLOW IT DOWN!" I gave him a big grin under the helmet and a thumbs up and he flew off in a cloud of dust. you, sir, have been hanging around ME too much! great story, congrats on the new Buell, can't wait to see and hear it. (and thanks for the "space" yesterday, we logged 12+ hour days both days this weekend.) FB&D |

Well its getting to that time of year again! Who would be interested in a group ride for all Northern California and beyound riders to meet the Southern California and beyond Blast riders? The time April 2, 3, and 4 - though it can be just the 2nd and 3rd for those pressed by time! Yes the anual San Louis Obispo - SLO Ride is on again and I hope to meet a lot of the western USA Blast riders this year! How about it folks - a chance to finally put a face to the names/nonplumes of folks you've been conversing with is yours and the rides are fun! Speak up if your interested so I can get rooms and rides arranged. Last year was great fun and a great group of rides - to there, around there, and back again! - 3 unique routes, and new additions planed for this year! Well Blastards - how about it - ready to ride? Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

I've been thinking about that chippie and I think I know what happened to the poor guy. When I saw his brake lights I hit the binders so hard I almost did a stoppie so I could pull into a safe turn out. Said turn out had a high barrier that partly obscured my bike. He lost track of me and didn't think I could get over that fast. When he got turned around and started charging after me I wasn't in sight (I was, he just didn't look over!). Hence the reason he didn't even look at me as he coasted by ( unusual I thought). I would have had to break the sound barrier to get around the next curve and out of sight. But there was a turn out a few yards back that dropped down to the river. After flipping a U not 15 feet away and driving back and stopping in the middle of the road he first ran over to the edge and looked down to the lot by the river to see if I was there before he walked back to throw the debris off the road. THATS when he saw where I was and why he had that holy crap look on his face as I was just standing there trying to figure out what he was doing. A chippie will almost NEVER let you run by them at 80 and NOT cite you. I think he was a bit embarrassed. I think he would have felt worse if he knew I had spent 15 years in law enforcement and knew what he was supposed to be doing. Not the best way to do it but now at least I know my speedometer is accurate. |

Guys, pick up the November Free2Wheel! Jerry Johnson's Looney Tunes White Lightning is the featured Buell in the story entitled Coastal Coffee which is about The Motorcycle Cafe, a motorcycle themed mini museum and coffee shop at 624 S. Coast Hwy in Oceanside. It looks like a neat place to have a cuppa joe. Check out the next page in the link, more of current issue" to see Looney Tunes. |
