Someone told me he had taken a pound of his primary chain sprocket(s - don't know if he did one or both). Said he noticed a definite improvement in accelleration. Anyone did this, heard about it, can tell me about it? Can that be proven with dyno's or something? |

What he has done is lighten the rotating mass. By lightening it, the motor works easier to spin it so it will rev quicker. Milling a pound off the primary gear from what my roomate said would be interesting if the metal is as hard as he thinks. But it would be worth it for the quicker revs. |

We have done it in years past, this year we ran a aluminum comp sprocket and aluminum clutch basket. Ran it all year without fail. Much lighter, but I think I would keep that (aluminum set-up) on the race track. Do you want race pics or sprocket pics first Ingemar... |

I think I would keep that (aluminum set-up) on the race track. Why? Do you want race pics or sprocket pics first Ingemar... Send me the sprocket pics first and I'll take care of posting them in an appropriate format here for those interested. What type of aluminium did you use? 6061-T6 billet? I might take my sprockets this winter to a machinist and have them custom made from alu ... |

BTW 1320 I have to give you a HUGE shout of thanks for the info on Energyone mfg's clutch kit. Got the extra plate kit and its like a whole different bike. Taking a bit of getting used to how fast it locks up, but what do I expect from a racing clutch. |

Kent & Nancy are great people...I met him about 5yrs. ago through E-bay..Hah! He was the production Manager at Barnett for alot of years and went out on his own and his wife Nancy is the original Barnetts granddaughter..might say clutches are in the bloodline! Also, anything from BDL Beltdrives, Rivera/Primo, and the new Baker Drivetrain stuff all come with the Energy One steels & fibers.... |

From Billetusa.com: the cost for 35T Aluminum Engine Sprocket is $161.73. The Clutch Basket with steel ring gear is $369.00. What are the prices of the stock buell products (for comparison)?. |

Wow...$162 bucks to shave a tenth off the quarter mile time...well since for me it would be a 12-9 conversion figure 2 tenths...it just might be worth it. |

Wycked, I've been sitting on a 12 primary conversion for my 9 all year. Will probably get it installed this winter. If you're interested in acquiring my 9 gear and chain for for a reasonable price let me know. After looking at this thread and the price of a lightened gear on racingmotorcycles I'm tempted to just get my stock gear machined to shed some weight. |

Easy, someone else just did the 9to 12 primary change and said it just killed the bike. Not that I wouldn't love to get the parts at a reasonable price, but I would hate to see you end up sorely disappointed. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/76425.html?1096151964 |

I'm sure that it would make for slower launches and make it harder to pull the front wheel but other than that I can't think of any drawbacks. I'm not looking to gear my 9 for drag racing. But no problem, I'll give it a try and if it turns out OK for me I'll likely stick with it, if not I can change it back. If I ultimately liquidate the parts and you haven't already gotten yours I'll let you know. |
