Just received an email with the subject line of your 2k4xb12 available for sale I didn't realize I was selling it... The message reads: I'm Kenny i saw the advert of your ( Lightning XB12S ),I am intrested i have also send some of my patners out to help me in saeching for it, and I ill like to see the pics if it is availableat the moment what is the last price of it.and i'm going to arrange for the shipping.hoping to read from you. pls mail me back soonest....... Thanks I wrote back asking for the link to the ad that he saw. I know this is obviously a scam, but what's my next step? Any suggestions? It's also obvious that the information that was used to generate this bogus email was harvested from this site. The exact text (including capitalization) was pulled from my profile page. Anybody else get a similar message? (Message edited by 2k4xb12 on November 03, 2004) |

I would just ignore it. I've received scam mail like that. I'm always surprised to see how bad their english is. Maybe it's time to start hiding our email adresses in our profiles. |

Ingemar -- I guess you're right. I tried to edit my profile to include a "remove-me-first" in my email address, but Blake has the system set to send an activation key to the email address you provide, so I guess the only option left is to hide it. |

You could string him along without saying specifically that your bike is for sale and try to get him to send someone to meet you. Keep all coorespondence though, and print out all emails and ensure that all the text prints and doesn't magically disappear in the print function. I think I'll go check my own email. There's a funeral home next door to the police and fire stations in my town that would make for an excellent meeting place. If it's foggy a Bogart scene could be set up down by the marina. Some PostMasters at local post offices are up on this internet scam business and if so they may be willing to work with you via a post office box. The more time the scammer spends playing with your bait the less time he/she/it will have to play with or keep track of others. |

This needs to be brought to the attention of Blake, not out of anger or anything like that but to see if there is something he can do, as this is the ONLY sight where my bike is listed as an XB12 SR Lightningbolt.

If he's really bothering a lot of guys on here maybe it's time for someone to dig up his ip & hostname and write a letter to his ISP. I did that for a few germans trying to hack my server at home and they got kicked after I sent them a copy of all my log files. |

Must be nice to have the kind of cash laying around that you can afford to buy up so many bikes. Wonder if he's only into Buells, or if he's hitting other forums as well. He should spend a bit of that cash on grammar and spelling lessons... |

You could string him along without saying specifically that your bike is for sale and try to get him to send someone to meet you. Won't work. I tried it. I had my bike for sale and got an interesting email. Start at the bottom. Needless to say, it turned awfully quiet after my last reply...
quote:Not wanting to dissapoint you, I am not too quick giving out my details yet. Also, I am not taking the bike anywhere. If you want it, you come and pick it up and you pay cash. That is the only way. The bike rides great and I'm sure you will enjoy riding it back to Spain with a grin on your face. Of course I don't want to jump to quick conclusions, but you better be careful how you approach people. The way you come on looks and sounds very suspicious. Now I happen to be a Network Engineer and if I want to, I can trace from where the email is sent, regardless of a free yahoo or hotmail account (I'm not threatening, just a side note ). If you are serious about buying the bike, I'm happy to hear from you with a less suspicious offer (ie, coming down to the Rotterdam vicinity and paying me 8900 euro). Regards, Ingemar. ps. for about 12000 euro you can buy a NEW buell, even in Spain. frokdo david wrote: > */Ingemar Bijker,/* > */ > thanks for your mail, the horse is going to spain in madrid where i want to use it for our furth ceremoney. so now am going to send you a cheque as > the mode of payment and am sending you (14,000 EURO) and immediately you > recievd the cheque i we like you to take it down to a cashing store over > there to collect the money quickly than to take it to bank but if you wish > to take it to bank no problem but i we prefer u to take it to cashing > store so as soon as u recievd the money or immeditealy you recievd the > cheque you can send half of the money to my shipper cause they are going > to use the remaining money on the cheque to come for the pick-up which > is landing and clearing, and the remaining fund on the cheque is > (5,100) i we like you to get the money quickly from cashing store and send > back the remaining on the cheque to my shipper. > and also you can mail my shipper for any question or any enquires > in whatever you are willing to ask them and they we be vey greatful to > answer you, thi s are there email address lsreal_shipper@yahoo.com <mailto:lsreal_shipper@yahoo.com> you > can mail them here for any question you have. > moreover when u read this mail i we like you to gave me yourfull > information in which am going to send you the cheque such as, > YOUR FULL NAME; > YOUR HOME ADDRESS; > YOUR PHONE NUMBER; > so as soon you gave me all this information the cheuqe we be send to > you, and also i we like you to mail the shipper for more enquires. > and also i we like you to send back the money to my shipper via > Western Union Money Transfer or money Grame down to my shipper inorder for > them to arrage for the pick-up, and also if you are using yahoo > messenger i we like you to gave me the id so that i can be talking to you there > also and this is mine lsrealo_012000@yahoo,com <mailto:lsrealo_012000@yahoo,com> you can add me in your > yahoo list and if you dont have go and opene it. > thanks, > hope to hear from you soonest, > Frokdo./* > */ > /* > > > > */ < mail address >/* wrote: > > Hello Frokdo, > > I'm selling for 8900 euro. Hide your e-mail address in your profile. Private message will still work as long as you keep it activated. Once your e-mail is hidden, the only way anyone could get it through here would be to answer a private message. |

And I believe only registered members of the site here can PM other members. That alone would give anyone another trail to back-track the offender along. |

Everyone should hide their email address. Do that by setting that option in your Profile's personal preferences. Just be sure to allow "Private Messages" so other BadWeBrs can contact you as desired. Non registered users cannot use the BadWeB PM utility. Anyone who does use the PM utility (click on profile and then at the very bottom to send private message) will provide a solid record of their identity, which most scammers are averse to doing. |

You need to tell them there is no problem as you have sold items that way before. However, the bike is on consignment at a local dealer who is requiring $100 as "storage" if you do not sell it through the dealer. If this gentleman would kindly pay the $100 up front you would be more than happy to send him $2001 later (or $2101) |

Blake...Thanks for the info. I have received at least six such solicitations this year and just delete them. Don't remember if the infamous Kenny was one of them, but am relieved to know you have a mechanism in place to thwart future solicitations. |

Ohhh, Daves, listen up, contact your local district attorney and ask them if they want the case - attempt to defraud a business as well as numerous private parties. Us lowly individuals get some response, but when a scammer attempts to defraud a business the State of Wisconsin tends to look a little more attentively into the matter. If this guy is this active in our little community here perhaps we should give him/her/it our full attention. |
