Just got back from voting here in Wisconsin. Big lines but everything seemed to be running smoothly. There were poll watcher checking to make sure you're legit. Not sure which party they were from. | ||

In Lebanon, OH (near Cincinnati), at about 6:45, the line already stretched out the door. By the time I was done voting (about 40 minutes later), it was out into the parking lot. I think the lessons from Florida were well learned, especially in swing states, and voter turnout will be staggering. | ||

Just got back myself, I was the 579th person in my district to vote. Hell there have been times I have been there at 7pm & might have been the 150th person. Definitely going to be a record turnout. | ||

I was number 58 out of mebbe 1500 in my precint early this AM(trying to match my draft lottery number), but they reporting record turnouts everywhere! for all the BS during this campaign, it might be worth it if it gets big numbers of folks off their duffs to vote -- never understood being able to and not . . . .sheesh | ||

Odd observation. I went and Voted this afternoon. There were two Lines. One for last names starting with A-K and one line for names starting with L-Z The A-K was empty, one or two voters trickling in. My Line was 45 minutes Long (L-Z) My wife went early this morning, said it was the same way...Any Thoughts? | ||

It was the opposite where I voted. The A-K line was extremely long yet in the L-M line you could walk right up. | ||

I voted about noon today and was number 458 for my ward. According to the voting machine that scans the ballets I was number 933 (or so) for the two wards combined. I agree Bomber...the more I think about the more I can't figure out why people don't vote. (Message edited by kinger on November 02, 2004) | ||

My neighbor is one of the polling clerks at the precinct just four blocks away. No line, two booths empty. We did have new color-in-the-elipse with a #2 pencil ballots this year instead of the dreaded punch card ballots. Too simple. | ||

Any one look at the exit polls? They are pretty interesting in some states. HEHE..Blake how did Nebraska beat Texas in precentage for Bush? It was kinda cool tonight at work. I was at my machine working and this mexican fella came over to my machine and we started talking and he asked me who I voted for. I told him I voted for GWB and he told me thank you. He said he really can't wait to be able to vote when he finally gets done with his class and becomes a full citizen. I told him he could have half of my vote for GWB and he smiled and said thank you again. My job is pretty diverse and it was interesting to see the reactions tonight. All of the Africans, one russian guy and a lady from turky where all upset about Bush being in the lead and rather vocal I might add. The people from Vietnam, China, Korea and Mexico where all excited that Bush was winning and just sat contently. | ||

Here in San Diego, we voted in a neighbor's garage (no kidding!) and it was a very easy process. Check your name off (no ID verification though!) and hand you a very simple sheet to mark with a felt tip pen. No lines, folks in a good mood. Hey, it was 75 degrees and sunny! | ||

Richard (Brucelee), Same for us here in south carlsbad...in a garage, 18 voting stations set up, 2-3 person long line at 7:30 PM. Just like taking a test in high school, except for Felt tip instead of #2 pencil, ovals instead of circles. Pretty darned easy and painless. Not sure what those states are doing that there were 8 hour voting lines, that's beyond ridiculous. Al | ||

There were long lines in Wisconsin, but we have same day registration. When we got to the front of the line, it turned out my wife hadn't registered at our new address. She was able to register, but did not have a photo ID with her. State law allows someone (me in this case) to vouch for her. We need huge voting reform in WI. I don't have a problem with same day registration, but I think photo ID should be required even if you are already registered. | ||

Kinger...agree with photo ID regardless whether one is or isn't preregistered. Additional feel their should be some form of confirmation of address. Just don't know what that would be for those that just moved and did not have a chance to update their drivers license. Some suggestions would be appreciated. FYI, in Brookfield, the only lines were during the before and after work rush. The rest of the day was very light as usual. Now that you folks are registered, perhaps getting an absentee ballot would work best for you in the future. Lastly, I do have a minor problem with same day registration, but that only has to do with potential voter fraud and not for the general public. Preregistering doesn't take that much time and is relatively convenient. You don't even have to go in to the court house. You can call and get the forms mailed to you or download them then simply mail them back in. I downloaded both the registration and the cancellation of prior registration forms for my girl friend and she registered by mail. Totally painless and terribly efficient, if you get my drift. | ||

The DMV has little blue stickers to put on the back of your driver's license with your new address along with the form to mail in. If you're too new to a residence to have any utility bills yet then bring in your rent lease agreement or closing paperwork if you just bought a new house, or a paystub from work if you've received one with the new address. There are lots of legitimate ways to prove place of residence. Including just doing an absentee ballot for the prior address instead of voting at the new place if the move was/is too close to the election day. One vote, one person, the address just ensures where you vote. | ||

I'm jealous of all you guys with paper ballots. In my precinct here in TX we had these stupid little computer deals to vote at. No printout of how I voted, it just disappears electronically into the great bank of votes...How do I know my vote was counted correctly and the computer doesn't just generate a random vote?  Had to wait in line for 2 hours in a blowing freezing cold rain for the futile act of voting for Kerry in TX...  It was good to see SOOOOO many people voting though, regardless of WHO they were voting for. Makes me sick to think of all of the people who have fought and died for us to have the right to vote and some $hitheads would rather sit at home and watch sitcom reruns... | ||

West Central Florida - Touch Screen...very nice, but where does my electronic ballot go? No paper trail. I'm not too paranoid, but neither am I too trusting. Anyway, no problems this year. I voted early, because I'm so f...ing smart and it only took me an hour. My wife went to our local precinct on Nov. 2, just before 7:00 p.m., voted, picked up a six pack and was home in 15 minutes. |
