Anyone know why the gas tank vent is directed toward the rear of the bike instead of the air inlet. For example, is there any reason for not inserting the vent hose into the air inlet (where the snorkel is). | ||

not sure you'd want any fumes venting into the intake tract -- just a guess, though | ||

If your tank vents and purges gas like I've heard it does you certainly don't want it going anywhere but on the ground. I guess you could run it somewhere else.......as long as it hits the ground and not parts of the bike......Odie | ||

Odie has it right!! Overfilled the tank by only a couple of ounces, thought, oh well it will go down soon enough. WRONG...when I fired the bike, I'm guessing that the combo of the fuel pump and the vibes at idle sent a nice trickle of fuel right out the "overflow", dripping right on the hot muffler!! Although the stock location may not be the best, imagine what could happen if all that fuel got dumped into the airbox, and sucked into the intake?? | ||

The hose you are seeing is the overflow for the tank. The tank vent is mounted right next to the filler under the outer airbox cover on the right hand side. That has a hose that feeds into the airbox. | ||

Ah, yes. Imagine gas or even worse gas vapors in the intake manifold. Very dangerous, indeed. (Just joking) Steve-O | ||

Mine feeds over the airbox and down the left hand side of the bike and ends inside the left side rearset... | ||

Wyckedflesh, the hose you talk about that comes from the tank vent and the tank overflow are one and the same. The hose from the tank vent runs over the top of the inner airbox cover, past the shock and exits inside of the left footpeg bracket (like M1combat said). I would not want the gasoline tank vent hose to feed into the air intake snorkel, as Dcmortalcoil suggested, nor would I want it to feed directly into the airbox. Imagine a hot day after a long ride you stop and park the bike for lunch. After lunch you turn the key and fire up the bike....... And I really mean you fire up the bike. Mike.  | ||

You could also end up with something like what we with California bikes get when we over fill the tank |
