That's the thing with computers, hard to tell where the user is. Sorry about putting you in the wrong state there sir. I've been to Iowa, never been to Ohio, guess I'll have to do something about that and maybe visit a museum or something.....

Rocket - Thanks for the story.

My objection to buying Chinese boots isn't based on quality. It has more to do with preserving a US industrial base and keeping US jobs. It's a hard thing to deal with though. So many times I feel like companys take advantage of a 'buy american' mentality to foist lower quality and more expensive goods on me.

Aw hell, I just bought a pair of boots I wanted.
If I see two of the same product, I will pick the domestic one if that's the tie breaker. Only one place makes Buell boots, I wanted Buell boots, I bought the Buell boots.

My vote for a good MC boot is Cruiserworks http://www.cruiserworks.com/. I have about 25K miles on my current pair although the sole is getting near the end. They are waterproof and breathable (essential in FL) and unlike most MC boots you can do a bit of walking in comfort. They also come in large sizes. My size 14 limits my choices in other brands.

The downside is expect to pay over $200.

I also want a pair of MSR Hi Point Boots.
The kind Goose wore in Mad Max.
But they're probably not made in the US either.

The most comfortable boots I ever wore were Prexports, made in Italy. The only problem was that they wore out too quickly. If the Buell boots are as comfortable, then they're worth the price.

How about a group buy?
Next week when I get back to work I'll put together a price for say 10 or more Badwebbers to get boots at a special "Dave" price?

Whatcha think?
Who's in?

Personally I'm a bit wary about buying boots with an advertising logo on the sole.
My general intention is to keep that part of my foot-wear in an unreadable position.
It worries me that a manufacturer would think that people are going to see a logo there.
Am I alone in this opinion?

It's taken me years to get my old Frank Thomas boots how I like them so I'm not changing now.

Those Buell boots look pretty nice, dont think I would use em on a track day though.

For serious riding & tracks I recommend Alpinestars SMX plus boot.

I also just picked up a pair of these

I got em 2nd hand but never worn for $50. They are relatively cheap on the web & can be picked up for about $80-90. Not up to the quality or protection level of the Alpinestars or a pair of Sidis, but they also are only 1/3-1/2 the price.

Which is great if those boots were made for walking!

Point being mr Rocket know it all, those boots would be great for someone who does 1 or maybe 2 track days a year & thats it. Nothing more serious is required & they beat the hell out of combat boots with the laces taped.

I gave another option for folks that may be on a budget. Thanks for chiming in with your useless post tho. Have a great day.

Me a know it all? That's pretty rich coming from you fella.

If you think a boot with less crush strength and abrasion resistance is ok on a track, I wonder why racers go to the extreme's of buying kevlar socked Daytona's for example?

You never made any suggesting in your post about anyone doing a couple of track days wanting to save money. Your post simply suggests on your say so, those cheap boots are fine (and better than the Buell ones), though not up to the levels of protection of a pair of Alpinestar's or Sidi's.

Perhaps you should have wrote what you meant to save me explaining it for you, in an effort not to mislead anyone.

Also,

A serious injury can occur from some less experienced rider doing a track day or two compared to a more experienced rider doing many more.

If you don't like the boots, then don't buy the freakin' things! Nobody is claiming that they're the ultimate race boots. They are better than a lot of other footwear that I've seen on some riders.
As far as Alpinestars go, I'll never buy another one of their products. I bought some very expensive winter gloves from them a few years ago. The first pair lasted less than a month, then they tore apart at the seams. The second pair lasted less than a month, and it took two months for Alpinestars to get them to me.(With a lot of confusion, evasion, mishandling and outright lying on their part) The third pair lasted two weeks. By then, winter was over, and I was completely disgusted. They sell overpriced junk. If their boots are as durable and of equal quality to those gloves, sneakers would offer better protection.

Damn straight Crusty.

Your post simply suggests on your say so, those cheap boots are fine (and better than the Buell ones),

Nowhwere did I state they were better than the Buell ones so dont go putting words down that I never said nor implied. I havent seen the Buell ones yet so cant comment. I did say they looked good...guess you missed that part. But I also dont see any sliders so i assume they obviously arent meant for any track duty at all.

If you think a boot with less crush strength and abrasion resistance is ok on a track, I wonder why racers go to the extreme's of buying kevlar socked Daytona's for example?
Did I say racers should wear em?? But as Crusty said they beat high top sneakers & the price is right. How many times have we read where someone is saying that its gear & equipment costs that are keeping them from doing a track day?? Plenty. I find a decent alternative boot that doesnt cost much & will work fine for a novice on the track & you wanna be an arse about it.

Dave,

I'm in, put me down for a pair size 11's. Do they do the width thing or are they all medium widths.

Dave...please do check into the width issue and whether or not they run wider or more narrow than the classic "D" medium width.

Dyna...What brand boots are those and what is the website you found them at?

All...Does anyone know of a boot that runs narrow? I can't buy Sidi's or a lot of other boots because their medium is so wide I need two thick pairs of socks so I can walk in them.

Thanks.

PS: Can't you guys even talk about boots without fighting? LOL

If anyone is still interested, I just bought a pair today at New River H-D/Buell for $114.99 RETAIL! They're quite nice really, comfy, supportive. I'm going to have to have them let out a little at the top to get them fit over my big fat calves, but other than that, looks like they'll work well for their intended. purpose

I put no words in your mouth Dyna. You're good enough at doing that yourself, along with your foot. I used the word SUGGEST as I felt it summed up what your post seemed to imply.
