Yer on, pal. Careful, within the heart of every /5 BMW a '39 TT winner lies dormant. Kahuna and I are going to be doing primary slipper swaps on our S1's this Saturday. Why not drop by for a garage natter and a beer?

I might be free Saturday - if I don't help my brother move to his new house. Has anyone bought stuff from Buell dealers just across the border? (ie American Thunder Buell in North Tonawanda, NY). The upgraded shift kit for X1s is ~$90<->$100 in the US, but with tax, the local HD dealers want almost $300 CDN. I also need an isolator kit, some spare exhaust gaskets (>$22 CDN for the pair), etc... The difference in price would pay for the motel room to install the parts in! |

If you ride down, you get VIP parking and the Buell's would turn a lot of heads! Lornce, K and who ever else is puttering around in the shop, cya in a couple hours! |

Well, if you can believe it, the Blast is actually looking pretty good... Or it was. The tail pipe of my Vance & hines muffler has rattled right off (and under my rear tire). It looks like it gradually wore the steel away untill it could slide out. I figured it would be no sweat in getting it replaced, since I bought it last summer from rocky's h-d. After having it for a week, they determined that it is not going to be covered under warranty due to "hard use". I'm not the most mechanically-sauvy guy around, so please explain... How can I over use a muffler? I realize my bike is the cheapest one in their shop, but that didn't bother them when I paid $600 for the part last year. anyone know a solution for this? I really don't want to shell out more money for a part that shouldn't be needing replacing. |

Chris, sorry to hear about your muffler woes. The Knowledge Vault is full of grief when it comes to V&H exhaust systems. The dealer won't cover it, or V&H won't? I'd call the Mr. Vance and explain your situation.....be nice, you might get a "good will" replacement??? Lornce, K, John and who ever else showed up a the S.O.B. shop, did you guys get out for a ride yesterday? The racing was awesome....I think I need to try flat tracking. Any one got $3000 to spare so I can convert my CRF450? I promise to list you as a sponser.....maybe its a tax write-off??? |

Caboose, Yea, we got out for a short ride Saturday afternoon. We had a good ride, but I felt a bit like the kid who dresses funny stylin around with those two Joe Rocket poster boys. Chris, I've got an old V&H carbon fibre can that came as a spare with my S1 that you're welcome to use for parts, or whole. Spent the evening stripping the S2 for the T-Storm transplant. After 20 years wrenching BMW's (the top end falls into your lap after about 8 minutes effort) these things are a bit of a pita, but much easier than others that come to mind. Cams and pinion swap was straight forward. Just have to button the two top ends back together but I need some head gaskets I can't get until tomorrow: bought the wrong items Friday. Arrrgh... Was surprised to see the "Lightning" cams out of the S3 only measure an additional 0.025" lift but the duration is huge compared to the stock grind cams removed from the S2. Interestingly, both sets of cams from the S2 with 17k kms and S3 with approx 30K kms, look like new. Rod brngs feel good on both machines, too. Clear to see the difference in the flywheels between the two models. The standard Sportster wheels in the S2 appear almost twice as thick as the lighter S3 units. No wonder the thing twists up so fast and hard. Build, material and fastener quality are apparent throughout. I'm impressed with these things. Oh, and the pistons are marked by the same mfg'r who produces pistons for BMW! Keep us posted on your race schedule, Caboose. We'll get S.O.B. go-fast stickers printed up for your CRF.... Just think, people will say: "That Caboose, he's one fast S.O.B.!" Buell on, Lornce |

An S.O.B. ride to remember. July 31st, a ride in the Niagara area ( RR69, Effingham, Pelham Rd. Hwy 20 etc.) Followed by season finale racing at Niagara Motorcycle Raceway. I'll post this message in the General Forum cause there was at least 6 Buell's there last weekend.....two with U.S. plates. Dirt track racing at its finest....be there!

Lornce, thanks for the offer, but I was able to fill most of the holes with sheet metal, not the best looking thing, but it should work for quite a while. Caboose: in reply to your question-- Rock'y said power twins (distributor of V&H) won't cover it, but I don't really believe they tried that hard. I was able to get a hold of a power twins customer service rep on the phone (after phoning half of the U.S and calgary). The reply was "Sorry, we don't deal directly with the customer, if you are having a problem with the retailer, you will need to work it out with them (pause) and how did you get this number?" All whinning aside, with everything back in order, I'm aching to get the little buell out. But since someone made a comment about my bike looking like a war-horse (lorence & john <cough>I was forced to paint, and it won't be set until Friday. If anyone is thinking of a ride let me know. I've taken on the duty of a recon mission to Grand bend, to ensure the girls are as cute as ever. I know it's self-less, but stuff like this needs to be tracked. chris |

Chris, Is that really your bike?!? I can't believe it's the same machine we saw back in March.... Who's going to Sportbike next weekend? Kahuna? Think the BRAG group meets at Barrie Buell/HD around 11 on Friday. I'm hoping to meet them there if that's actually the plan.... |

Chris, I've only seen your bike from your profile pic, but the Blast is looking great! Guys, if your planning on staying at the Foley Fairgrounds, remember that there are no washrooms or facilties to clean up in, you won't get much sleep, (plenty of parties going on) only bikes are allowed, and you'll have the best time of your life. If you need to clean up, you can clean up at the Government Docks. Don't miss the "Thunder Run", the McBrides "Poker Run" and enter the "Top Speed" tests at the local airport.

Mikel, just got in from 8 days vaction with the wife and kids. Looks like the rest of the S.O.B's are busy this summer too??? The above ride looks like fun. The roads being travelled are great and there are many more to explore. Unfortunately I'll be away and won't be attending. |

Hey guys, looks like we've got us a new S.O.B. to welcome into our midst. My buddy Aaron's leaving tonight for Decatur Illinois to pick up his new '96 S1. It's sweet, Reactor Yellow, T-Stormed, PM wheels, full race system and only 10k miles. We'll all have to get together for an inaugural ride once he gets the paperwork sorted out. Hey Caboose, any more flat track racing left this season? I forgot all about that.... later boys, L |

Congrat's Aaron! Your gonna love the S1 I think I'm going to put my X1 back on the road for the last bit of the riding season. My "Land Yacht" will get much too dirty during late fall rides. Lornce.....what bike do you have on the road now? As far as racing goes, Paris still has Speedway racing every Friday night at 8:00. Niagara Raceway http://www.wellandmotorcycleclub.com/ has one race left this year. Its the Grande Finale held on September 18th. |

hey, just dropping a line, if anyone still posts here... My blast has been in Jacox H-D (missisauga) for quite some time, and is finally ready. Basically everything on it was no good, but those guys fixed it all up, including the cracked head. They brought parts from home and everything. I was in while they were fixing it, and I think they could tell by the look on my face that I couldn't afford all this. So when the bill came, I pooped myself. I had no idea what I would do to get my buell back. then I got a call from Steve (the service manager) who told me I was given the wrong price. He told me they felt bad for the way my last shop looked after the bike (and me). He then quoted me a new price which, when I worked it out, was only parts. So, to make this long story short: Jacox H-D is fantastic! and if it wasn't for their service department my bike would either be blown up, or I would have had to sell it. |
